Director of Operations - Vermont Residential Propane & Heating Oil Position Summary The Director of Operations - Vermont is responsible for the overall performance of residential propane and heating oil delivery operations throughout Vermont. This position has direct responsibility for drivers, delivery execution, staffing, trucks and equipment, facilities, safety, productivity, and operational efficiency. The Director is expected to ensure the Vermont operation has the right people, equipment, and processes in place to safely and efficiently meet the delivery needs of the business. Sales, Customer Service, and Service operations are not direct responsibilities of this position. 1. Delivery Operations
Oversee residential propane and heating oil delivery operations throughout Vermont.
Ensure deliveries are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Ensure delivery operations are properly staffed and equipped to handle daily and seasonal demand.
Monitor delivery performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity.
Reduce unnecessary miles, inefficient deliveries, overtime, and other avoidable operating costs.
Ensure consistent operating standards and procedures across Vermont locations.
Address operational problems quickly and establish solutions that prevent recurring issues. 2. Driver Management
Provide leadership and accountability for Vermont delivery drivers.
Establish clear expectations for driver performance, safety, attendance, communication, and professionalism.
Monitor driver productivity and performance.
Ensure drivers follow company procedures and safety requirements.
Address performance issues and recognize strong performers.
Work with supervisors to coach and develop drivers.
Ensure new drivers are properly trained and prepared before operating independently. 3. Staffing & Workforce Planning
Maintain appropriate driver staffing levels throughout Vermont.
Anticipate staffing requirements ahead of the heating season.
Recruit and retain qualified drivers in coordination with HR.
Develop plans for vacations, absences, seasonal volume increases, and unexpected staffing shortages.
Monitor overtime and balance staffing levels against workload.
Identify locations that are overstaffed or understaffed.
Develop backup coverage and cross-location support when practical.
Maintain a strong pipeline of qualified drivers. 4. Fleet & Equipment
Ensure Vermont operations have the appropriate trucks and equipment required to efficiently serve the business.
Monitor truck utilization and identify underutilized or insufficient equipment.
Coordinate preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment downtime.
Minimize operational disruptions caused by equipment failures.
Maintain visibility into fleet condition and upcoming replacement needs.
Participate in annual fleet and capital expenditure planning.
Recommend truck or equipment additions, replacements, transfers, or disposals based on operational needs.
Ensure company equipment is properly maintained and cared for. 5. Facilities & Operational Assets
Oversee Vermont operational facilities related to delivery operations.
Ensure facilities are safe, organized, maintained, and capable of supporting the operation.
Maintain visibility into operational equipment and company assets.
Identify unused or underutilized equipment.
Coordinate equipment movement between locations when it improves utilization.
Ensure operational assets are properly accounted for and maintained. 6. Safety & Compliance
Maintain a strong safety culture throughout Vermont delivery operations.
Ensure drivers operate in accordance with company policies and applicable DOT, propane, petroleum, and transportation regulations.
Review accidents, incidents, spills, injuries, and safety concerns.
Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
Work closely with company Safety and Compliance personnel.
Hold employees accountable for safe operating practices. 7. Productivity & Cost Control
Continuously improve the efficiency of Vermont delivery operations.
Monitor key operating costs including labor, overtime, fleet maintenance, repairs, and equipment.
Identify unnecessary expenses and opportunities to reduce operating costs.
Compare performance between drivers and locations.
Establish operational benchmarks and expectations.
Use operating data to identify problems and drive improvements.
Standardize processes across locations where practical. 8. Seasonal Readiness
Develop and execute a Vermont winter-readiness plan.
Confirm adequate driver staffing before the heating season.
Ensure trucks and equipment are inspected, maintained, and ready for winter.
Establish contingency plans for extreme weather, equipment failures, driver shortages, and periods of unusually high demand.
Coordinate resources between Vermont locations during peak periods.
Review winter performance and implement improvements for the following season. Key Performance Indicators

Operational expenses vs. budget Overall Expectations The Director of Operations - Vermont is expected to own the execution of Vermont delivery operations. The Director should always have a clear understanding of:
Do we have enough drivers?
Are we getting the appropriate productivity from our drivers?
Do we have the right number and type of trucks?
Is our equipment reliable and being properly utilized?
Are we prepared for peak winter demand?
Are we operating safely?
Where can we improve efficiency and reduce cost?
Success in this role means creating a Vermont delivery operation that is safe, properly staffed, well equipped, efficient, accountable, and prepared to consistently execute during both normal and peak-demand periods.
Pay:
$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
