Job Description

An established food manufacturing company in Loveland, Colorado is seeking a hands-on Materials Manager to oversee purchasing, materials planning, and inventory management. You'll connect customer demand, supplier deliveries, inventory, and production schedules into a practical plan, and follow through on the details that make it work. Your decisions will directly affect customer service, production efficiency, costs, and cash invested in inventory. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving problems, negotiating with suppliers, working with data, and staying closely connected to the production floor. Key Responsibilities Procurement and Supplier Management Purchase ingredients, packaging, and operating supplies according to approved specifications and purchasing authority. Negotiate pricing, payment terms, minimum order quantities, and delivery schedules. Evaluate total purchasing cost, including freight, quality, lead times, and inventory commitments. Create and maintain purchase orders, confirm delivery dates, and proactively resolve delays, shortages, and discrepancies. Monitor supplier performance and develop alternate sources in coordination with Quality and Operations. Coordinate with Quality to maintain required supplier approvals, specifications, and documentation. Production and Materials Planning Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders, forecasts, inventory, material availability, and operating capacity. Translate demand into purchasing and material requirements. Coordinate with Production, Warehouse, Sales, and Quality to establish realistic schedules and delivery expectations. Account for labor, equipment, changeovers, storage constraints, and quality-release timing. Anticipate shortages and scheduling conflicts, communicate their impact early, and recommend solutions. Update plans as demand or operating conditions change and keep affected teams informed. Inventory Management Own inventory planning and replenishment for raw materials, packaging, work in process, and finished goods. Establish and maintain reorder points, safety stock levels, and order quantities that balance product availability with cash flow. Partner with Warehouse and Production to maintain accurate inventory records, coordinate cycle counts and physical inventories, and investigate discrepancies. Monitor shelf life, lot traceability, inventory aging, and stock rotation in coordination with Warehouse and Quality. Identify and reduce slow-moving, excess, obsolete, and at-risk inventory. Maintain accurate item and planning data in the inventory/ERP system, including lead times, purchasing units, and order parameters. Coordinate with Finance on inventory adjustments and reporting under established approval procedures. Process Improvement and Reporting Track supplier delivery performance, inventory accuracy, stockouts, inventory turns, and production schedule adherence. Identify opportunities to reduce purchasing costs, unnecessary inventory, expedited freight, and preventable production interruptions. Improve purchasing, planning, and inventory processes so teams can work from reliable information and clear priorities. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of relevant experience in procurement, purchasing, materials planning, or production planning within a manufacturing environment. Practical experience managing inventory and connecting purchasing decisions to production needs. Experience working with inventory, ERP, or MRP systems. Verifiably and exceptionally strong Excel and Google Sheets skills, including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and dependable follow-through. Ability to negotiate professionally, build supplier relationships, and resolve problems constructively. Sound judgment about cost, quality, service, and inventory investment. Ability to manage competing priorities and communicate clearly across departments. Willingness to work on-site and stay engaged with warehouse and production activities. Preferred Qualifications Oracle/NetSuite experience strongly preferred , particularly with purchasing, inventory management, item records, and reporting. Experience in food, beverage, ingredient, supplement, or other shelf-life-sensitive manufacturing. Familiarity with lot tracking, supplier documentation, and food-safety requirements. Experience with bills of materials, work orders, and materials requirements planning. A relevant degree or
APICS/ASCM

$68,504.85 - $82,500.47 per year
