Buyers, Purchasing Agents, Procurement Specialists, and/or Inventory Coordinators Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Supervisor to lead our purchasing and procurement function within a manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for overseeing the purchasing team, managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing and contracts, analyzing material requirements, and ensuring the timely availability of materials needed to support production. The ideal candidate is a strong procurement leader and analytical thinker who understands manufacturing, inventory management, forecasting, MRP/ERP systems, supplier performance, and cost control. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working cross-functionally and taking ownership of purchasing strategy and performance. What You'll DoProcurement & Supplier Management Supervise daily purchasing activities and purchasing team performance. Source, evaluate, and qualify suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery, and service. Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and supplier agreements. Develop and maintain strong, strategic supplier relationships. Monitor supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost. Lead supplier issue resolution and corrective action initiatives. Identify opportunities to improve supplier performance and reduce procurement costs. Demand Planning, Forecasting & Analytics Analyze historical material usage, purchasing activity, production schedules, and demand trends. Use ERP/MRP data, forecasts, open purchase orders, lead times, safety stock levels, and inventory data to anticipate future material requirements. Develop purchasing plans that support production while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory. Identify potential shortages, supply risks, excess inventory, and obsolete materials before they impact operations. Adjust purchasing plans based on changes in production schedules and customer demand. Analyze purchasing data to determine appropriate order quantities, timing, reorder points, and safety stock levels. Create and maintain reports, spreadsheets, dashboards, and purchasing metrics for management. Compare historical purchasing results with future requirements and adjust strategies accordingly. Inventory & Production Support Coordinate purchasing activities to ensure materials are available when needed for production. Monitor inventory levels and help minimize stockouts, excess inventory, and obsolete materials. Review MRP reports and execute purchasing strategies accordingly. Work closely with Production Planning, Operations, Engineering, and Quality to maintain material availability. Support cycle counts and inventory accuracy initiatives. Help identify and resolve material shortages that could impact production schedules. Cost Management Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations. Analyze supplier pricing, purchasing trends, and market conditions. Monitor purchasing expenditures against budgets and departmental targets. Track and report cost savings and procurement performance. Monitor Purchase Price Variance (PPV) and identify opportunities for improvement. Team Leadership Supervise, train, coach, and develop purchasing personnel. Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations. Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback. Promote accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Develop purchasing processes and best practices to improve departmental performance. Compliance & Process Improvement Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and procedures. Maintain accurate purchasing records, contracts, and supplier documentation. Support quality management and regulatory compliance requirements. Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, ERP/MRP utilization, and overall operational efficiency. Promote lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles throughout the purchasing function. What We're Looking ForRequired/Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in a manufacturing environment. 2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing supply chain processes. Experience with inventory analysis, forecasting, material planning, or demand planning preferred. Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, procurement, and inventory control. Skills & Competencies Strong vendor management and negotiation skills. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong understanding of purchasing, inventory, and supply chain processes. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems. Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel . Ability to analyze data and make sound purchasing decisions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership and team-management abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles is a plus. Monday-Friday schedule. Standard hours are 7:00 AM-4:00 PM or 8:00 AM-5:00 PM . Occasional travel to supplier facilities or industry events may be required.
