$100,000-$110,000 The Opportunity We are recruiting a Procurement & Materials Manager for a growing, highly specialized industrial equipment manufacturer in the Charlotte area. This is not a narrowly focused purchasing position. You will take ownership of the entire materials ecosystem supporting manufacturing —procurement, supplier performance, inventory, material planning, receiving and material flow—while working directly with Operations, Engineering, Production, Quality and Finance. The company designs and manufactures sophisticated, engineered industrial equipment rather than high-volume commodity products. That creates a different supply-chain challenge: complex BOMs, engineered and fabricated components, changing production requirements, long-lead items, supplier constraints and customer delivery commitments all have to come together. For someone coming from an OEM, industrial equipment, machinery, fabrication, machining or engineered-to-order manufacturing environment , this is an opportunity to have significant influence over how the operation performs. What You'll Own You will lead both the strategic and day-to-day execution of procurement and materials management: Develop and execute procurement and materials strategies aligned with production requirements and company growth. Own supplier selection, qualification, performance management and supplier development. Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms and purchasing agreements while evaluating total cost of ownership , not simply unit price. Establish purchasing budgets, monitor spending and identify cost-reduction opportunities. Manage critical suppliers, long-lead components and single-source risks while developing contingency plans. Establish and maintain safety stock, reorder points, min/max levels and purchasing parameters . Ensure materials are available to Production according to manufacturing schedules. Proactively identify shortages and supplier risks before they affect production or customer commitments. Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, lead-time, MOQ and purchasing information within the ERP/MRP system. Improve inventory accuracy through disciplined cycle counting and physical inventory processes. Identify and address obsolete, excess, damaged and slow-moving inventory. Establish clear material identification, location, labeling and traceability practices. Monitor open purchase orders and actively manage late, aged, cancelled or unnecessary orders. Develop supplier agreements, blanket orders, forecasts and purchasing commitments where appropriate. Build meaningful procurement and inventory metrics and dashboards for management. Lead, train and develop Procurement and Materials team members. The scope intentionally reaches beyond Procurement. This person will work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality and Finance to improve material availability, inventory accuracy, supplier performance and manufacturing execution. What We're Looking For The strongest candidates will have supported a manufacturing operation where materials directly affect what gets built and when it ships.
You should bring:
Strong experience in procurement, purchasing, materials management, inventory control and supply chain within a manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems . Strong understanding of material planning and production requirements. Ability to work with BOMs, production schedules and engineering documentation . Experience managing supplier pricing, lead times, quality, delivery and capacity. Strong supplier negotiation and relationship-management skills. Experience identifying and resolving material shortages and supply-chain risks. Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Operations, Production, Quality, Finance and external suppliers. The initiative and judgment to identify problems and drive solutions rather than waiting for someone else to define every next step. Experience with production scheduling or operations coordination is particularly valuable. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred. Education Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Operations or a related discipline preferred. MBA is a plus. Why This Opportunity Is Different This is a smaller, highly technical, hands-on manufacturing environment where Procurement and Materials operates close to the people actually engineering, building, testing and delivering the equipment. You'll have the opportunity to see the direct impact of your decisions, work closely with engineering and manufacturing leadership, improve processes rather than simply inherit them, strengthen supplier and inventory disciplines, and solve complex manufacturing problems. The right person will enjoy having visibility, autonomy and ownership and working in an organization where initiative and practical problem-solving matter more than layers of corporate process. The Person Who Will Thrive Here We're looking for someone who sees a material shortage and asks why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again . Someone who doesn't accept unreliable supplier performance as normal. Someone who understands that the lowest purchase price isn't necessarily the lowest total cost. And someone who can move comfortably between an ERP system, supplier negotiation, production meeting, engineering question, inventory issue and the manufacturing floor. #
