This role leads a three-person materials team and owns purchasing, expediting, receiving, material control, inventory accuracy, and the MRP system. Some activities, primarily expediting, receiving, and inventory movement, are delegated to team members, but accountability for results remains with the Head of Purchasing & Inventory. Responsibilities
Lead the purchasing and materials team, set priorities, and hold team members accountable.
Own the MRP system and ensure it produces accurate, actionable material requirements.
Purchase materials and services; negotiate price, terms, quality, and lead times.
Manage supplier relationships, performance, and on-time delivery.
Ensure open and overdue purchase orders are actively managed and expedited.
Identify shortages before they affect production and drive recovery plans.
Ensure receiving and material-control processes are followed and transactions are accurate.
Own inventory accuracy, including cycle counts, material movements, manufacturing transactions, and discrepancy resolution.
Ensure material can be physically located when production needs it.
Establish and enforce disciplined purchasing, receiving, inventory, and MRP processes.
Work closely with Operations, Product Development, and Accounting.
Identify and implement opportunities to reduce cost and improve material flow. Required Experience
Strong purchasing or materials-management experience in a manufacturing environment.
Significant hands-on MRP experience is required.
Direct experience managing purchasing, inventory, and material requirements through an MRP system.
Significant involvement in an MRP implementation or major MRP improvement is strongly preferred.
Experience leading a purchasing, materials, or inventory team.
Demonstrated success improving supplier performance, material availability, and inventory accuracy. Preferred Experience
MRPeasy experience is a strong plus.
MRP implementation experience in a growing manufacturing company.
Make-to-order, engineered-to-order, or configurable manufacturing experience. Skills
Strong understanding of MRP, purchasing, inventory control, receiving, and material flow.
Strong leadership, delegation, and accountability.
Supplier negotiation and performance management.
Data-driven problem solving and root-cause analysis.
Ability to implement practical processes and ensure they are consistently followed.
Strong sense of urgency, organization, and follow-through. Measures of Success
