Job Description

Certified Recovery Support Specialist The Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) is a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides peer support services to individuals living with substance use issues. This role is designed to be full-time (40 hours) with a four-day work week. This position will travel between CAW offices in Pelham, Calera, and Clanton. The Substance Use Coordinator will determine what days the CRSS will be present at each CAW location. The CRSS should be flexible about traveling between offices and in the community. The CRSS offers numerous services including peer-led support groups and/or recovery groups, individual peer support meetings, psychoeducation to clients and families, resource linkage, and community outreach. The frequency and duration of services will be determined by ADMH standards, client needs, and expectations identified by the Substance Use Coordinator. All clients admitted to CAW's substance use program will be offered peer support services. The frequency, duration, and intensity of services is based on the specific program that the client is admitted to. Following admission to the program, the CRSS will speak to the client about peer support services and its value in the recovery process. The CRSS may offer the following services:
  • Facilitating recovery education groups
  • Peer led support groups
  • Peer mentoring
  • Using life experience to assist consumers in understanding their diagnosis
  • Crisis support
  • Assistance in: o Identifying barriers o Connecting to community health, social services and self-help groups o Identifying warning signs and barriers to recovery o Relapse prevention planning o Reconnecting to family and community
  • Assistance in developing: o Basic living skills o Self-esteem and confidence o Recreation and social opportunities o Self-help and self-advocacy skills o Crisis resolution, problem solving, and goal setting skills o Screening/intake
  • Assistance in acquiring resources: o Housing o Employment o Job readiness training o Education o Physical and mental health o Food o Clothing o Parenting o Transportation o Criminal justice requirements The CRSS will be held to ethical, professional, and agency standards to ensure that quality services are provided.
It is expected that the CRSS has impeccable writing, documentation, communication, and critical thinking skills. The CRSS should be willing to receive ongoing feedback and guidance about performance. Reliable transportation is required for this role. SALARY - $13-$15 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years of continuous demonstrated recovery time from a substance use disorder at the date of application.
  • Willing to self-identify as a person in recovery for the benefit of others.
  • Have general knowledge/familiarity with numerous different avenues of recovery
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • 40 hours of ADMH-approved Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) training.
  • Have active certification from ADMH as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
PREFERRED
  • At least one year of employment as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) in a community mental health center setting.
  • Experience working with individuals struggling with homelessness and other financial/psychosocial stressors Experience working with an interdisciplinary team
