Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The In School Support Monitor provides supervised time and guided assistance to students who are disruptive in a traditional classroom setting and are assigned to alternative programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Holds a high school diploma or equivalent.

Is skilled in creating and maintaining a wholesome relationship with children.

Demonstrates good human relations and communications skills.

Has the ability to work independently.

Is able to meet the physical and emotional demands of the position.

Has earned or is willing to pursue twelve (12) credit hours of appropriate course-work.

Must meet minimum requirements under the No Child Left Behind Act for instructional support services personnel.

Has experience working cooperatively with professional personnel.

Has the ability to comprehend and effectively utilize conflict resolution skills, appropriate dialoguing techniques, good behavior planning communication, and appropriate physical restraint methods.

Is a positive and skillful problem solver.

Projects self-assurance regarding difficult students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs general instructional related duties, including duplicating materials, preparing materials, and working with students to enrich or reinforce instruction.

Assists the student in the completion of assigned work as directed by teachers.

Maintains required records, and reviews student work to determine if completed according to the teacher's specifications.

Promotes good will, understanding, and acceptance of the county's programs and actions.

Maintains the appearance and preparedness of assigned learning area.

Maintains a supportive relationship with each student to encourage success in school.

Mediates conflicts (crisis management) and responds to problems in an appropriate manner.

Independently manages/supervises students of various grades and ability levels as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

PAY & HOURS

This position is 6.75 hours a day with a maximum of 33.75 hours per week and is on the Caroline County Board of Education, Support Services Salary Scale I. Placement on the appropriate salary step will be based on knowledge, experience, skills and abilities related to this position.
