Primary Function The Multi-Cultural Engagement Coordinator (MCEC) is responsible for creating, implementing, and coordinating meaningful cultural activities, lessons, experiences, and programming for the Boys & Girls Club. The MCEC will rotate among the Club's three locations to ensure that all members have consistent access to engaging and age-appropriate cultural programming. A key responsibility of the MCEC is to build genuine, positive relationships with Club members, Youth Development Professionals (YDPs), Club leadership, families, and community partners. The MCEC will work collaboratively with Club leadership and program staff to develop and deliver programming that encourages curiosity, respect, belonging, and a deeper understanding of the many cultures represented within our Club and community. What Is Cultural Programming? Cultural programming helps young people experience and understand a world beyond their own perspective. Through stories, traditions, language, arts, activities, food, history, and hands-on experiences, Club members are encouraged to explore different cultures, countries, and communities while discovering both the similarities that connect us and the differences that make each culture unique. As a Club serving the Flathead Reservation, it is especially important that our programming creates opportunities for young people to learn about and engage with the history, people, stories, traditions, arts, and languages of the Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Orielle peoples . This includes developing our own programming as well as building meaningful partnerships with the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT), Salish Kootenai College (SKC), Tribal Education, cultural committees, Knowledge Keepers, and other community resources. Our Club community is diverse, and every young person brings their own culture, experiences, traditions, and perspective with them. The goal of cultural programming is not simply to teach about culture, but to celebrate people, build relationships, create understanding, and help young people appreciate the diversity within their Club, their community, and the world around them. Culture plays an important role in how young people understand themselves and the world around them. Therefore, all cultural programming should be approached with respect, humility, inclusiveness, authenticity, and a genuine commitment to relationships. Core Values Our team strives to embody the principles of being an Ideal Team Player, demonstrating the characteristics of Humble, Hungry, and Smart in all that we do. Humble We prioritize the mission and the needs of others, value teamwork over recognition, welcome feedback, and respect the perspectives of others. Hungry We bring initiative, strong work ethic, and accountability to our roles, consistently seeking ways to improve programs and outcomes for youth. Smart (People Smart) We practice emotional intelligence by communicating clearly, listening well, building positive relationships, and resolving challenges respectfully. Mission-Minded We remain committed to creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments where youth can grow, lead, and succeed.
