•Not Remote or HybridPosition OverviewWe are seeking a motivated and organized Traveling Assistant Project Manager

•Steel Erection to support structural steel erection and fabrication projects across the country.



The company is a well-established, union structural steel erection contractor with more than 45 years of industry experience and operations across Wisconsin, Arizona, Kansas, and Ohio. The company has experienced significant growth and continues to expand its geographic footprint and project portfolio.



The organization works with major commercial and industrial clients, leading construction firms, and steel fabricators on projects nationwide.



The Traveling Assistant Project Manager will support Project Managers with the coordination and administration of assigned steel erection and fabrication projects. This is a highly field-oriented position, with the APM spending significant time at larger project sites serving as the "eyes and ears" of the office-based Project Management team.



The ideal candidate will have commercial construction experience, strong organizational and communication skills, the ability to read and interpret construction documents, and an interest in developing a career in structural steel project management.



Structural steel experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with Assistant Project Manager experience from general contractors or other specialty contractors are encouraged to apply.



Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management SupportAssist Project Managers with the planning, coordination, and execution of assigned structural steel erection and fabrication projects.



Support project activities from initial planning through completion.



Help ensure project requirements, schedules, budgets, and documentation are properly managed.



Serve as a key connection between the field project team and the office-based Project Manager.



Support multiple projects within an assigned geographic region as needed.



Identify project issues, delays, material requirements, and field needs and communicate them to the appropriate project leadership.



Construction Document ReviewReview and analyze:


Construction drawingsStructural drawingsBlueprintsProject specificationsContract documentsOther construction-related documentationDevelop a strong understanding of the contracted scope of work and estimated project budget.



Identify discrepancies, missing information, or potential project issues.



Assist the Project Manager and field team in interpreting project requirements.



Support the preparation of RFIs and other project documentation.



Field Project CoordinationBe stationed at larger project sites to serve as the eyes and ears for the office Project Management team.



Maintain regular communication with field superintendents, foremen, ironworkers, project managers, clients, vendors, and other project stakeholders.



Understand daily field conditions and communicate project needs to the office.



Coordinate with field operations regarding equipment, materials, manpower, and other project requirements.



Monitor field activities and assist in resolving day-to-day project issues.



Track field productivity on a daily basis.



Provide regular updates regarding project progress and field conditions.



Equipment, Material & Procurement CoordinationCoordinate with field operations to identify equipment and material requirements.



Prepare purchase orders and subcontract-related documentation.



Coordinate material deliveries to various project sites.



Track delivery schedules and confirm materials arrive as required.



Maintain accurate records of materials, equipment, deliveries, and related project activities.



Communicate with vendors and suppliers to address delivery or material issues.



Project DocumentationAssist with preparing and maintaining essential project documentation, including:



Requests for Information (RFIs)SubmittalsChange OrdersDaily reportsJob progress reportsPurchase ordersSubcontractsMaterial delivery recordsProductivity reportsTimesheetsOther project documentation as requiredEnsure project records are accurate, timely, and organized.



Field Productivity & ReportingTrack daily field productivity and project progress.



Review daily reports and timesheets for accuracy.



Assist with monitoring manpower and labor utilization.



Help identify productivity concerns and communicate them to Project Management.



Support the Project Manager in evaluating progress against project schedules and expectations.



Ironworker Onboarding & Field AdministrationAssist with the onboarding of new ironworkers and field employees.



Support the collection and management of timesheets.



Assist with daily field reporting and employee documentation.



Coordinate with field leadership to ensure required information is submitted accurately and on time.



Client, Vendor & Partner RelationsInteract professionally with clients, general contractors, construction partners, steel fabricators, vendors, and subcontractors.



Build positive working relationships with project stakeholders.



Respond promptly and professionally to project-related questions and requests.



Help ensure client and partner needs are communicated effectively to the project team.



Represent the company professionally at project sites.



Required QualificationsMinimum 1 year of commercial construction experience.



College-level construction internships may be considered toward the experience requirement.



Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.



Other degrees may be considered based on relevant industry experience.



Ability to accurately read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and other project documents.



Strong organizational and time-management skills.



Excellent written and verbal communication skills.



Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities.



Strong attention to detail.



Ability to work effectively in a field-based construction environment.



Willingness and ability to travel frequently to project locations.



Ability to quickly learn and effectively use construction technology platforms.



Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite is essential.



Preferred QualificationsExperience with structural steel fabrication or erection.



Assistant Project Manager experience with a General Contractor.



Assistant Project Manager experience with a specialty contractor.



Construction Management degree.



Engineering degree.



Experience working on commercial or industrial construction projects.



Understanding of structural steel erection processes.



Familiarity with steel fabrication processes.



Experience working directly with field construction teams.



Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and project reporting.



Experience tracking construction productivity and project progress.



Structural Steel KnowledgeStructural steel experience is preferred but not mandatory.



Candidates with knowledge of the structural steel construction process will have an advantage, particularly experience with:
