The Fort is seeking a reliable, self-motivated Resident Caretaker to ensure our historic grounds remain safe, clean, and beautifully maintained. This position requires full-time on-site residency in exchange for housing. The ideal candidate takes pride in venue presentation, enjoys working outdoors, and works seamlessly alongside our event coordinator and board committees.
Core Duties & Responsibilities:
Security & Access:
Open and close property gates every morning and evening.
Grounds & Facility Upkeep:
Regular mowing, leaf blowing, power washing walkways, trash removal, and routine bathroom cleaning.
Property Inspections:
Identify maintenance needs and create written lists of necessary repairs for management.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with the event coordinator for event preparation and set-up. Coordinate with the property maintenance committee on larger monthly projects. Report directly to the designated property management board members.
Basic Repairs:
Perform basic facility maintenance tasks across the property as needed.
Compensation & Living Arrangement:
Housing:
Includes a private, 1-bedroom apartment on-site provided in full exchange for required caretaking duties. 1 dedicated covered parking space.
Utilities & Expenses:
Resident Caretaker is responsible for their personal cell phone and personal internet service. Standard utilities (water/trash/gas/electric) are covered as outlined in the housing agreement. Property Policy Smoking is strictly prohibited on the property. We maintain a no-pets and no-children policy for all live-in residents. Expected Hours The position requires consistent availability for daily gate operations every morning and evening. Exact hours may fluctuate based on event schedules and property needs, with additional time required for maintenance tasks and coordination with the event team. Approximately 15- 20 hours a week.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Age:
Must be 18 years of age or older (required for legal housing/occupancy agreements).
Work Authorization:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Form I-9 verification required upon hire).
Communication:
Strong oral English communication skills required to coordinate effectively with event staff, maintenance teams, board members, and site visitors.
Residency:
Must reside on-property full-time.
Physical & Equipment Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, perform active manual labor, and operate basic equipment (mowers, pressure washers, hand tools).
Tools:
Must possess a reliable working personal mobile phone.
Property Rules:
Strict No Pets and No Live-In Visitors policy. Renter's insurance required.
Pay:
$16.90 - $17.90 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 20.0 per week
