As an employee-owner, you'll work alongside a team that values collaboration, quality, and helping one another succeed. We're looking for an experienced nursery professional to join our team as our Perennial Buyer. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with plants, building relationships with growers, and helping ensure our customers always find an outstanding selection of healthy, high-quality perennials.   • Purchase perennial inventory for both retail and wholesale customers.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with growers and vendors.
  • Place seasonal orders and monitor inventory levels throughout the year.
  • Help ensure our perennial department offers an outstanding selection of healthy, high-quality plants.
  • Coordinate with greenhouse staff regarding spring and fall production, plug orders, bare-root material, and potting schedules.
  • Review sales trends and inventory levels to help determine future purchasing needs.
  • Assist with annual pricing and merchandising decisions.
  • Maintain accurate inventory information, SKUs, and purchasing records using our inventory management system.
  • Assist with updating product information for our nursery catalog and website.
  • Review outstanding purchase orders and coordinate deliveries with vendors.
  • Communicate professionally with vendors, customers, and fellow team members.
  • Work closely with management during seasonal planning and budgeting.
  • Support other projects and duties as needed to help the nursery operate successfully. What We're Looking For
  • Experience working in a nursery, greenhouse, garden center, or horticultural environment required.
  • Previous buying, inventory management, merchandising, or purchasing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Good knowledge of perennial plants, including plant health, quality, insects, diseases, and seasonal availability.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with growers and vendors.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Comfortable learning and using inventory management and point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Positive attitude, dependability, and willingness to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills. Physical Requirements This position combines office work with regular time spent throughout our 12-acre nursery and growing areas. Company golf carts are available for travel throughout the property.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Bend, reach, stoop, and stand as needed throughout the workday.
  • Inspect plant material and inventory throughout the nursery and greenhouse areas.
  • Work additional hours, including occasional weekends, during our busy spring and fall seasons. Why Join O'Donal's?
