Job Description

Job Overview Hardscape Center is seeking an organized, knowledgeable, and relationship-focused Hardscape Buyer to manage the purchasing and inventory needs of our hardscape department. The Hardscape Buyer is responsible for ensuring that we have the right products, in the right quantities, at the right time, and at competitive costs. This position works closely with our vendors, sales team, yard and operations staff, and management to maintain appropriate inventory levels while providing the products and service our professional landscape customers expect. This is a full-time, seasonal position reflecting the seasonal nature of the landscape and hardscape industry. The position is busiest during the spring, summer, and fall seasons and has minimal work responsibilities during the winter/off-season. The successful candidate will combine strong purchasing and organizational skills with an understanding of inventory management, vendor relationships, pricing, and the seasonal demands of the landscape and hardscape industry. Primary Responsibilities Purchasing & Inventory
  • Manage purchasing of hardscape products, including pavers, retaining wall products, natural stone, bulk materials, landscape accessories, and related products.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels based on historical sales, current demand, seasonal trends, lead times, and anticipated customer needs.
  • Create and manage purchase orders.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and expected delivery dates.
  • Follow up with vendors regarding shortages, backorders, damaged products, and shipping discrepancies.
  • Identify potential inventory shortages before they impact customers or sales.
  • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and excess inventory and recommend appropriate action.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts and inventory reconciliation.
  • Maintain accurate product, cost, vendor, and purchasing information within company systems Vendor Management
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Communicate regularly with vendor representatives regarding product availability, pricing, lead times, promotions, and new products.
  • Negotiate pricing, freight, purchasing programs, discounts, and other terms when appropriate.
  • Evaluate vendor performance, including pricing, availability, delivery reliability, product quality, and service.
  • Identify and evaluate new vendors and products that may benefit Christensen's and our customers.
  • Attend vendor meetings, product demonstrations, trade shows, and industry events as needed. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:
  • Hardscape industry experience preferred, but not required.
  • Purchasing, inventory management, landscape supply, construction supply, building materials, or related experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors, orders, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with vendors and coworkers.
  • Good computer skills and the ability to learn inventory and purchasing software.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to analyze inventory levels, sales history, costs, margins, and purchasing needs.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take ownership of purchasing issues.
  • A willingness to learn hardscape products, manufacturers, applications, and industry terminology. Compensation & Benefits Hardscape Center offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including:
  • Competitive Pay:
    $25.00
  • 27.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
