We're redefining what it means to be a Surgical Scheduler—and creating real pathways for growth along the way. We would be honored to have you join our team at Mile High Eye Institute! About the Position As a Surgical Scheduler at MHEI, you play one of the most meaningful roles in our patients' care journey. You are the person who guides them through one of the most important decisions of their lives—their vision—from their first surgical consultation through post-operative care. This role focuses specifically on cataract and cornea surgery—two of the most life-changing procedures in ophthalmology. You'll develop deep expertise in these surgical pathways while working directly with our surgeons, surgical centers, and referring providers to ensure every case is scheduled, documented, and executed seamlessly. This is a brand-new role, created because our Aurora location has grown significantly and we are expanding our Sheridan surgical scheduling team to meet increasing patient demand. Our team is not turning over—we are growing, and this position is part of that momentum. At MHEI, our Surgical Schedulers are trusted partners to our surgeons and advocates for our patients. We are committed to creating an environment where you feel supported, respected, and empowered to grow in your career. Why This Role is Different MHEI is in a major growth phase—and that growth is creating real opportunity for our surgical team. We are not your typical eye care clinic. Here's what makes this role stand out: ✔ Work alongside surgeons at a Castle Connolly Center of Excellence—the first in Colorado and among the top 1% of practices in the country ✔ Support a high-volume cataract and cornea surgery program, including advanced corneal procedures like the first-ever epi-on corneal cross-linking performed in the country ✔ Coordinate cases at our own onsite Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC)—a rare opportunity in an ophthalmology practice setting ✔ Serve patients at a practice trusted by hundreds of referral partners across Colorado and over 50k patients in the state ✔ Grow into leadership and senior scheduling roles as our surgical program continues to expand This is a role where your work directly changes people's lives. The patients you schedule will see more clearly because of you. Career Growth & Leadership Pathways At MHEI, we believe in developing our team and promoting from within. High-performing Surgical Schedulers have a clear path forward: Surgical Scheduler → Senior Surgical Scheduler → Lead Surgical Scheduler → Surgery Manager → Practice Operations Each step offers increased responsibility, leadership opportunity, and greater involvement in shaping the surgical experience at MHEI. What You'll Do In this role, you will be the central point of contact for everything related to a patient's cataract or cornea surgery journey—from the moment surgery is recommended through final post-operative follow-up. Maintain and manage the surgical schedule for our cataract and cornea surgeons, including surgical logs for upcoming procedure dates Communicate with patients about scheduling, pre-op testing, post-op care, insurance requirements, surgical consents, transportation, and financial options Consult patients on their surgical options based on surgeon recommendations, presenting information clearly and compassionately Coordinate with surgical centers regarding patient cases and case preparation Arrange pre-operative testing and schedule pre-op and post-op visits Facilitate co-management of surgical patients with referring and co-managing providers Educate patients on what to expect before, during, and after cataract or cornea surgery Collect patient payments related to surgery in accordance with insurance requirements Coordinate all surgical paperwork including consents and required documentation Answer patient phone calls, texts, and emails to ensure smooth, timely communication throughout the surgical process Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA, confidentiality, and organizational security policies
Role Breakdown:
~80% patient communication & surgical scheduling | ~20% administrative & documentation support What Makes You a Great Fit This role is ideal for someone who is comfortable having high-stakes conversations with patients, thrives in a detail-driven environment, and is energized by the opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives.
