WHO WE ARE
The Florida Eye Clinic has grown to an impressive 11 practice clinic of ophthalmologists and optometrists with a state-of-the-art Ambulatory Surgical Center at our home practice in Altamonte Springs. We believe our mission is to maximize the visual potential of each of our patients through the highest quality of vision care. We are dedicated to providing a positive experience for our patients, so The Florida Eye Clinic is seeking a professional, positive, and team-oriented individual to join our family as a Surgery Scheduler.
WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
The Surgery Scheduler performs various pre-surgery administrative activities necessary to maintain a balanced and efficient surgery schedule for the Ambulatory Surgery Center, each physician, and scheduling of surgical procedures performed in hospitals. Your day will also include taking care of paperwork and other administrative requirements. You will serve as a liaison between patients and medical staff throughout the entire process, which covers pre-operative testing, authorizations for health insurance, the procedure itself, and follow-up appointments. All throughout, surgery schedulers communicate with patients and their families to ensure that they're well informed and prepared. As well as additional clerical tasks such as processing payments, taking phone calls, and verifying patient records.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
1. Interview each pre-operative patient choosing an appropriate surgery date. Schedules pre-surgical testing appointment, provides patient with the medical clearance forms and arranges transportation if needed. 2. Enters all patient demographic information into the surgical scheduling computer format. 3. Reviews each day's surgery schedule to assure complete and balanced schedule. Calls each patient the day prior to surgery to confirm arrival time. 4. Responds to each patient's telephone inquiry or written correspondence pertaining to the pre-surgical process. 5. Prepares appropriate forms. 6. Communicates with the appropriate Ambulatory Surgical or hospital surgery personnel to update the schedule, coordinate schedule changes, respond to special patient needs, and resolve any special Scheduling situations. 7. Enters first postoperative visit appointment into the FEC computer-based appointment schedule. 8. Communicates with the eye bank to obtain corneal and scleral tissue.
OTHER DUTIES
1. Notifies the physician and ASC personnel of any special patient needs or situations. 2. Routes medical records to assure completeness of pre-operative procedures. 3. Updates and keeps current all information for insurance provider manuals.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
Operates multi-line telephone triage system and computer terminal.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Aptitudes:
Audio and verbal ability, ability to organize.
Techniques and Procedures:
Requires 100% interaction with people, manual dexterity to an extent of 80%, lifting and reaching limited to 40%, and 80% sitting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to sit for extended periods of time Ability to lift and carry 2-4 lbs. of paperwork Ability to gather and deliver information from various locations within the clinic setting
