Food Access Pantry Operations Lead

Job Description

The Pantry Operations Lead is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of Lenore's Pantry & Market, ensuring that the pantry is organized, well-stocked, welcoming, and operating efficiently. This position plays a hands-on role in maintaining inventory, organizing food and supplies, supporting pantry distribution, and ensuring that operational needs are addressed in a timely manner. This position is an important member of the Food Access team and should demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, strong communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing a welcoming and dignified experience for everyone accessing Lenore's Pantry & Market. Essential Functions Pantry Operations & Inventory Support daily operations of Lenore's Pantry & Market, ensuring a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming environment. Receive, sort, stock, rotate, store, and distribute food and donated goods while following food safety and sanitation guidelines. Monitor inventory, expiration dates, and high-demand items; assist with inventory counts and communicate needs to the Food Access Coordinator. Assist with tracking food deliveries, donations, and inventory needs. Volunteer & Team Support Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to prepare assignments, provide day-to-day direction, and support volunteers. Communicate operational, inventory, staffing, and safety needs to appropriate staff. Collaborate with YMCA staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, and pantry participants. Community Experience Provide friendly, respectful, and professional service to pantry participants while maintaining their privacy and dignity. Assist participants with questions and direct concerns to the appropriate staff member. Safety & Compliance Follow YMCA policies, food safety and sanitation requirements, and established food handling and storage procedures. Maintain a safe work environment and promptly report hazards, damaged products, equipment issues, or other concerns. Complete required YMCA and Food Access training. Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a food pantry, food service, retail, warehouse, nonprofit, or similar operational environment preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond appropriately to changing operational needs.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and move food boxes, cases, and other supplies as required
  • Commitment to serving individuals and families with dignity, respect, and compassion. Preferred
  • Experience with inventory management or tracking systems.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Experience with food safety and food handling.
  • Experience working in a community-based organization or nonprofit setting.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
