Position Summary This position entails counseling patients who are candidates for surgery of a refractive nature as well as achieving optimal usage of the Ambulatory Surgery Center & other resources. Surgery counselors make all necessary arrangements for patients as they pertain to the surgical procedure recommended by the surgeon. This position will provide options, describe the pre
peri
and post-operative course, discuss and collect relevant payment, schedule pre
and post
operative examinations, follow up with the unscheduled patients and assist patients where necessary throughout the surgical process. Expected compensation between $21.99
$26.
39/hour. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience and skills. Surgery Counselor Essential Functions Counsels' surgery patients on the benefits of elective surgery, using tools and techniques to educate and overcome objections Assist patients with surgical arrangements: schedule surgery and post-op appointments, distribute & collect all related documents and payment, as well as relay all surgery related instructions Ensures all payments relevant to the surgery are collected prior to surgery Utilizes practice management for patient scheduling, tracking and follow-up Offer emotional support and address patient concerns or anxieties related to surgery, recovery, and outcomes. Stay updated on the Advanced Lens Technology that AEC offers their patients for cataract surgery Schedules patients calling for LASIK evaluations and LASIK procedures Respond promptly to patient phone calls, answering questions about procedures, preparation, and recovery Ensures that daily deposits and designated paperwork are sent to the Business Office each day and that information is complete and accurate Other Essential Functions Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time Participate in department and company meetings, as requested Provide training and support to new staff or less experienced team members Performs other duties as assigned Education & Licensing High School Diploma, or equivalent, required Associate degree in Medical Administration or similar coursework preferred Experience One year of ophthalmic/optometric experience preferred One-year of scheduling experience preferred Customer service experience preferred Skills & Knowledge Required Well-versed in the language of elective surgeries as well as standard surgery options Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for explaining medical information and answering questions clearly. Empathy and patience to offer emotional support to patients and their families.
