Assistant Warehouse Manager Star Nova South Bend, IN Job Details Full-time $60,000 - $98,000 a year 22 hours ago Qualifications Performance management Manufacturing facility experience Bachelor's degree Warehouse experience Manufacturing Process management Full Job Description We are looking for a hands-on Assistant Warehouse Manager to help lead the day-to-day operation of our growing warehouse. This position reports to the Operations Manager and will play a key role in coordinating warehouse operations, QC, receiving, material organization, repairs, staging, loading, and shipping. Our company is growing quickly, and many of our warehouse processes and systems are still developing. We need someone who can bring organization, accountability, and structure to daily operations while helping us improve processes as the company grows. This is a hands-on leadership position. The Assistant Warehouse Manager will spend significant time on the warehouse floor, directing priorities, working with supervisors and team leads, solving problems, and making sure work gets completed. A major part of this job is knowing what needs to happen, who needs to do it, what could prevent it from happening, and whether it actually got done. Responsibilities Help manage the day-to-day operation of the warehouse under the direction of the Operations Manager. Coordinate and direct daily priorities across warehouse operations, QC, receiving, repair, staging, loading, and shipping. Provide direction to warehouse supervisors, team leads, and employees and ensure priorities are clearly communicated. Make sure employees are actively working on the correct priorities throughout the day. Oversee the flow of modules and other materials from receiving through QC, repair, storage, staging, and shipment. Maintain visibility of what material has arrived, what requires QC or repair, what is ready to ship, and what has already shipped. Ensure modules, pallets, crates, parts, and other materials are properly identified, organized, stored, and accessible. Make sure QC work is prioritized according to upcoming shipment requirements and completed efficiently. Coordinate with logistics and project management to understand upcoming shipments, deadlines, and changing priorities. Verify that material is actually ready before scheduled loadouts and identify potential shipment risks early. Help improve truck loading and unloading efficiency and reduce unnecessary delays. Monitor warehouse activity throughout the day by regularly walking the floor and verifying progress firsthand. Hold employees, supervisors, and team leads accountable for productivity, quality, attendance, safety, and completion of assigned work. Follow up on problems and assigned tasks until they are actually resolved. Identify bottlenecks, missing material, disorganization, staffing issues, QC problems, and other operational risks and take action to resolve or escalate them. Help establish and maintain standards for material organization, labeling, tracking, housekeeping, and warehouse cleanliness. Assist with developing and improving processes for receiving, inventory control, QC, repair, staging, and shipping. Help ensure employees are properly trained and understand expectations for their positions. Communicate warehouse status, shipment risks, staffing concerns, and significant operational problems to the Operations Manager. Step in to help coordinate other areas of the warehouse when operational needs change. Support a safe working environment and ensure established safety procedures are followed. Handle other warehouse and operational responsibilities assigned by management. What We're Looking For Previous warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, distribution, construction, or similar operational experience. Previous leadership, supervisory, team lead, or management experience strongly preferred. Comfortable directing employees, setting priorities, following up, and holding people accountable. Willing to spend significant time on the warehouse floor rather than managing primarily from an office. Highly organized and able to keep track of many moving pieces at once. Strong problem-solving ability and comfortable making decisions without being given step-by-step instructions. Strong follow-through and a willingness to take ownership of problems until they are resolved. Able to recognize inefficiencies and recommend or implement practical improvements. Comfortable working in a growing company where priorities, responsibilities, and processes may change. Able to communicate effectively with warehouse employees, supervisors, QC, logistics, project management, and senior management. Comfortable using Excel, warehouse trackers, and other business software. Experience with inventory control, shipping/receiving, QC, or process improvement is helpful. Bachelor's degree is helpful but not required. Demonstrated leadership, reliability, judgment, initiative, and the ability to get results are more important. What Success Looks Like A successful Assistant Warehouse Manager will help create a warehouse where employees know their priorities, supervisors and team leads actively manage their teams, material can be located quickly, QC stays ahead of upcoming shipments, and trucks are prepared and loaded efficiently. Problems should not sit unresolved because nobody knows who owns them. When something is missing, behind schedule, disorganized, or not being completed, the Assistant Warehouse Manager should identify the problem, determine who needs to address it, and follow through until it is resolved.
Most importantly:
We are looking for someone who takes ownership. The right person will learn how the entire warehouse operates, stay aware of what is happening on the floor, hold people accountable, solve problems proactively, and help make the operation more organized, efficient, and reliable as the company grows.
