About the Role We are seeking an experienced Warehouse Manager to lead the daily operations of our Ypsilanti warehouse. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands warehouse operations from the ground up and prefers to remain actively involved with the team and the work taking place on the warehouse floor. The Warehouse Manager will be responsible for directing employees, coordinating daily priorities, maintaining inventory accuracy, monitoring safety and productivity, and ensuring customer and shipment requirements are met. The Manager will also prepare operational reports, participate in meetings, communicate warehouse performance and concerns to the Operations Director, and support improvements to material flow and warehouse efficiency. The successful candidate will lead by example, maintain a visible presence throughout the warehouse, and balance active floor leadership with the reporting, communication, and employee-management responsibilities of the role. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage daily warehouse operations, including receiving, shipping, storage, inventory control, and material movement. Direct, support, and hold warehouse employees accountable for safety, attendance, productivity, quality, and workplace conduct. Assign daily work based on shipment schedules, customer priorities, staffing, and operational needs. Maintain an active presence on the warehouse floor and work alongside employees. Assist with loading and unloading trucks, tagging and scanning materials, moving inventory, and operating warehouse equipment. Ensure incoming and outgoing materials are properly identified, documented, stored, and processed. Maintain inventory accuracy through ERP transactions, scanning, bin-location systems, cycle counts, and discrepancy reviews. Coordinate with program managers, customers, suppliers, carriers, and internal departments regarding shipments, inventory, and operational priorities. Ensure warehouse processes are completed according to established work instructions, safety requirements, and company procedures. Monitor warehouse organization, equipment condition, material storage, and space utilization. Train employees on warehouse procedures, equipment operation, inventory handling, and safety expectations. Address routine employee, inventory, equipment, and operational concerns. Prepare reports, provide warehouse updates, and participate in operational meetings. Communicate significant staffing, inventory, customer, safety, or equipment concerns to the Operations Director. Identify and implement practical improvements to warehouse efficiency, organization, and material flow. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. At least five years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, shipping and receiving, inventory control, or material handling. At least three years of experience supervising or managing warehouse employees and daily operations. Strong working knowledge of loading and unloading, tagging, scanning, shipping, receiving, inventory movement, and material storage. Experience using ERP, warehouse management, scanning, and bin-location systems required. Experience preparing operational reports and communicating warehouse performance to leadership. Demonstrated experience leading employees, assigning work, addressing performance concerns, and maintaining accountability. Strong organizational, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing operational needs. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word. Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire. Ability and willingness to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scissor lifts, and other warehouse equipment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
The person in this position frequently communicates with warehouse employees and customers who have inquiries and require directions. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Consistently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina. Work is in a warehouse environment with concrete floors that has exposure to outside weather conditions. Must be able to respond quickly to sounds and respond to moving vehicles.
CANDIDATE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent (Required). Bachelor's Degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field (Preferred but not required). 2 -3 years of experience in warehouse operations or logistics, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leader type role. Experience with inventory management systems, order fulfillment, and shipping/receiving processes. Certified and able to operate warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling tools. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) to interact with team members, suppliers, and other departments. Experience with inventory control and auditing, ensuring accuracy in stock levels and order fulfillment. Microsoft Office tools and
WMS/ ERP
experience required.
