This role offers an exciting opportunity to operate various transit vehicles, including school buses, paratransit vans, and transit buses, ensuring timely and secure transportation for diverse communities. Your commitment to safety, customer service, and adherence to traffic laws will help us deliver reliable transportation services while fostering a positive experience for all riders. This paid position is ideal for motivated drivers eager to contribute to community mobility and safety. Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vans in accordance with state and local laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance, behavior management, and boarding procedures to ensure passenger safety and comfort. Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations diligently during all routes. Respond quickly and appropriately to traffic changes, emergency situations, and stop requests using emergency response procedures for transportation. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, addressing their needs, and maintaining a friendly demeanor. Conduct pre-trip inspections and routine vehicle checks to ensure operational safety and compliance with vehicle codes. Handle heavy lifting when assisting passengers or loading equipment while adhering to safety protocols. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport. Proven experience driving buses or vans in a professional setting, including school bus driving or transit bus operation. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures. Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Experience working with children or senior care is highly desirable; familiarity with student discipline and behavior management is beneficial. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and respond swiftly to traffic changes or emergencies. Certifications such as first aid (including CPR), defensive driving, and emergency response procedures are preferred. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively.
