May include varied hours based on transportation service needs and operational demands
Location:
Position will report to Corydon, for training daily until Management changes location to New Albany.
Summary:
Oversee and manage public transportation operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transit services. This role includes supervising drivers, coordinating training, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting the safe transport of passengers in accordance with DOT, federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate transit vehicles as needed to support safe and timely passenger transportation Supervise all Transit System Drivers, including hiring support, training, and performance evaluations Ensure compliance with all transportation policies, DOT regulations, and agency procedures Coordinate and provide ongoing training for transportation staff, including CPR/First Aid, defensive driving, passenger assistance, and compliance training Train new drivers on policies, procedures, documentation, and communication expectations Oversee scheduling and daily transportation operations to ensure efficient service delivery Address customer service issues related to transportation services, scheduling, and accessibility Manage transportation program operations in accordance with agency policies and safety standards Conduct annual performance evaluations for drivers Ensure proper handling of fare collection and transportation funds Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and purchasing of vehicles, parts, and equipment, including obtaining bids when necessary Maintain required records, reports, and compliance documentation Ensure adherence to substance abuse, safety, and transportation policies Participate in DOT compliance processes including drug and alcohol testing requirements Maintain confidentiality of all employee and passenger information Participate in ongoing training and professional development
Qualifications & Skills:
Strong leadership and supervisory skills Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities Ability to manage multiple operational priorities Knowledge of transportation systems, scheduling, and safety regulations Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate staff performance Proficiency with reporting tools such as Word, Excel, and scheduling systems
Physical & Work Requirements:
Ability to lift 70 pounds Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and perform frequent standing and movement Ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push, and pull as needed Ability to operate a vehicle in varying weather, traffic, and road conditions Ability to evaluate and respond to safety-sensitive situations Must meet FMCSA physical qualification standards for commercial drivers
Certifications & Training Requirements:
Valid Class B or C CDL with passenger endorsement OR Operator's License with "For Hire" endorsement Clean driving record meeting agency standards Driver Road Evaluation (in-house) CPR and First Aid certification Preventing Disease Transmission (Bloodborne Pathogens) certification CPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) certification DOT compliance requirements including drug and background screening Completion of Child Transportation Procedures for SITS Ongoing compliance with all required training and certifications
