This energetic position involves operating various types of vehicles—including transit buses, school buses, and vans—to transport passengers safely across designated routes. You will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, maintaining strict adherence to traffic laws and safety regulations, and ensuring passenger comfort and safety at all times. Responsibilities Safely operate commercial vehicles such as transit buses, school buses, and vans according to scheduled routes and traffic laws. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when necessary. Follow all transportation safety regulations, including emergency response procedures, vehicle codes, and traffic laws to ensure passenger safety. Maintain clear communication with dispatchers and passengers using effective English language skills; utilize multilingual abilities when applicable to serve diverse communities. Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, perform quick responses to traffic changes, and execute emergency stop procedures if needed. Provide exceptional customer service by addressing passenger inquiries professionally and managing student discipline or senior care needs compassionately. Assist with heavy lifting when necessary for loading or unloading mobility devices or luggage while adhering to safety standards. Requirements Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus or paratransit operation. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, transit bus operation, or van driving roles. Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, vehicle codes, state and local commercial driving laws, and school policy requirements. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus to better serve diverse communities. Demonstrated understanding of defensive driving techniques, emergency response procedures for transportation, CPR certification is preferred. Ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and execute emergency stop procedures confidently. Experience working with children or senior care is highly desirable; ability to manage passenger behavior effectively.
