Build More Than Landscapes Environmental Enhancements is looking for a skilled, dependable Enhancement Crew Leader to help lead landscape improvement and construction projects throughout the Austin and Central Texas area. We're not necessarily looking for someone who has spent their entire career in landscaping. We're looking for someone who knows how to build things, solve problems, lead a crew, and take pride in finished work. Experience in landscape construction, general construction, carpentry, welding, masonry, irrigation, drainage, equipment operation, or other skilled trades can all translate extremely well into this position. Our enhancement crews handle a wide variety of projects, and we're intentionally looking to diversify the skills available within our team. If you're the kind of person who can look at a project, understand what needs to happen, organize a crew, and figure out how to get it built correctly, we'd like to talk to you. A Four-Day Regular Work Week Our normal enhancement schedule is: Monday through Thursday Fridays are generally reserved for occasional overtime, special projects, weather make-up, or additional work when needed. For someone who works hard and likes the idea of completing their normal work week in four days, this can be a major advantage of the position. What Does Our Enhancement Team Build? One of the things that makes this position interesting is the variety of the work. Our enhancement division performs improvement projects for commercial properties, multifamily communities, HOAs, and other managed landscapes throughout Central Texas.
Projects may include:
Landscape installations Planting trees, shrubs, perennials, and seasonal material Bed renovations Mulch and decorative gravel installation Steel edging Drainage improvements Irrigation modifications Sod installation Soil and grading work Landscape demolition Fence and screening improvements Carpentry Welding and light fabrication Masonry and hardscape repairs Paver installations Retaining and landscape structures Property improvements Stormwater and detention-area work Tree-related projects General site improvement projects Not every candidate will know how to perform every type of work on this list. That's okay. We are intentionally interested in people from different skilled-trade backgrounds who can add capabilities to the team. The Role The Enhancement Crew Leader will be responsible for leading a small field crew and helping turn approved projects into quality finished work. You will work closely with our Production Manager and Account Managers to understand project scope, coordinate materials and equipment, organize the crew, and complete work efficiently. A good Crew Leader should be able to receive a project scope and answer four basic questions: What are we building? What do we need to build it? How should the crew approach it? How do we finish it correctly and efficiently? This is a hands-on leadership position. We expect our Crew Leaders to work alongside their teams when necessary, teach employees, solve problems in the field, and take responsibility for the final product. Crew Leadership Lead enhancement crew members through daily project work. Set expectations at the beginning of the day and make sure everyone understands the plan. Assign work based on employee experience and ability. Keep the crew productive without sacrificing workmanship. Help less-experienced employees develop new skills. Maintain a professional and respectful working environment. Hold team members accountable for safety, attendance, quality, and productivity. Identify employees with the potential to take on additional responsibility. A strong Crew Leader should make the people around them better. Project Execution Review project scopes with management before beginning work.
Help confirm that required:
Materials Equipment Tools Labor Deliveries Access Site preparation are accounted for before mobilizing whenever possible. Lay out projects correctly before installation begins. Monitor progress throughout the project. Communicate immediately when field conditions differ from the original scope. Identify potential additional work or change-order conditions rather than performing unapproved work without communicating it. Keep the project organized from mobilization through final cleanup. Quality Control Take ownership of the finished product. Crew Leaders will be expected to monitor: Installation quality Grades and elevations Plant spacing and layout Soil preparation Material quantities Irrigation impacts Drainage Edging Construction details Cleanup Property protection Overall presentation Before leaving a project, the Crew Leader should be comfortable putting their name behind the work. Construction & Skilled Trades We strongly encourage applicants with experience outside traditional landscaping to apply. Experience in any of the following areas can be extremely valuable: General construction Carpentry Welding Fabrication Masonry Concrete Fencing Hardscape Irrigation Drainage Equipment operation Grading Excavation Landscape construction Our goal is to continue expanding the types of projects Environmental Enhancements can perform internally. Equipment & Tools Depending on experience, Crew Leaders may operate or oversee the use of: Skid steers Mini skid steers Trenchers Augers Compact equipment Trailers Landscape equipment Power tools Saws Compactors Welding equipment Construction tools Crew Leaders are expected to make sure equipment is operated responsibly and problems are reported before minor issues become expensive repairs. Labor & Job Cost Awareness We want our Crew Leaders to understand that time matters. You don't need to be an accountant, but you should understand that every project has an expected amount of labor and material associated with it.
Crew Leaders will help:
Track crew hours Monitor project progress Reduce unnecessary downtime Avoid material waste Prevent unnecessary return trips Communicate delays Identify unexpected site conditions early The goal isn't simply to work faster. The goal is to plan better, work efficiently, and do the job correctly the first time. Communication Work closely with our Production Manager and Account Managers regarding project progress.
Communicate:
Material shortages Unexpected site conditions Equipment problems Schedule concerns Customer questions Additional work opportunities Crew issues quickly rather than waiting until the end of the project. Good communication is one of the most important differences between an average Crew Leader and a great one. Safety Maintain safe working conditions for the crew. Ensure appropriate PPE is being used. Operate trucks, trailers, machinery, and power tools responsibly. Protect customers' vehicles, buildings, sidewalks, utilities, irrigation systems, and existing landscaping. Stop and ask questions when site conditions create a safety concern. We expect Crew Leaders to set the standard for their team. Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working outdoors, building things, leading people, and seeing tangible results at the end of the day. You don't necessarily need to come from a traditional landscape company. A strong carpenter, construction foreman, welder, irrigation professional, equipment operator, or experienced landscape installer may all be excellent candidates.
Strong candidates will demonstrate:
Experience leading a small field crew Construction or landscape installation experience Ability to read and understand a scope of work Strong problem-solving ability Ability to organize people and materials Good communication Attention to detail Dependability Pride in workmanship Ability to work outdoors in Central Texas conditions Experience safely using tools and equipment Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Willingness to learn new trades and techniques Spanish-speaking ability is highly valuable, but not necessarily required. We are already an established commercial landscape company, but we are still small enough that talented employees can make a significant impact on what the company becomes. As our enhancement operation grows, opportunities may develop in: Enhancement supervision Production management Construction management Estimating Project management Irrigation Specialty construction Sales Account management People who bring additional capabilities to the company will have opportunities to help develop those capabilities into larger parts of our operation. Additional Earning Opportunities Environmental Enhancements also believes employees should have the opportunity to benefit when they help grow the company. Depending on responsibilities and circumstances, additional incentives may be available for contributions such as: Enhancement projects generated or sold New properties brought into the company Qualified customer referrals Skilled employees successfully recruited Other measurable contributions to company growth We appreciate people who don't simply think about today's task, but recognize opportunities around them. Why Environmental Enhancements? We believe we're in the sweet spot for someone joining a growing company. We're established enough to provide consistent work, equipment, customers, infrastructure, and opportunity. But we're still growing enough that one talented person can make a real difference. If you bring a skill we don't currently have, we want to use it. If you know a better way to build something, we want to hear it. If you can teach others, we want you to teach. If you demonstrate leadership, we want to give you more responsibility. We're building the next stage of Environmental Enhancements, and we want people who are interested in helping build it with us.
