Job Description
Incorporated in 1975, Hancock House Publishers is one of western Canada's longest running independent publishing houses. Specializing in non-fiction content with a regional focus on the Pacific Northwest, we have developed a strong catalogue of genres ranging from natural history guidebooks to history, memoirs, conservation, cryptozoology and a wide array of Indigenous content. Our sister organization, the Hancock Wildlife Foundation, also operates from our offices and is dedicated to the promotion of wildlife education and stewardship. Hancock House is currently seeking an E-Commerce & Order Fulfillment Coordinator to join our team based out of our Blaine, WA offices. This position could be structured as flexible part-time, or full-time depending on the successful candidate and the experience and expertise they can bring. Please outline your preference in your application. Candidates must be organized, self-starting and self-reliant. They must have excellent attention to detail and an ability to problem solve independently with minimal oversight. They must be self-motivated and willing to problem solve and troubleshoot independently when required. We emphasize the need for independence, trustworthiness, and self-motivation as this is a remote office location. However, as a member of our team, you will attend our weekly team meeting in person or virtually dependent upon schedules and transfer needs.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
entail: E-commerce and online sales management: managing online inventory databases for Amazon, Ebay and other platforms. Ensuring orders are fulfilled and shipped out in a timely manner and within the narrow windows allotted by online vendors.
Cloud Based Organization:
entering and managing data into spreadsheets and databases via various cloud platforms, including Google Drive.
Shipping/Receiving:
helping to organize inbound and outbound freight deliveries to our US customers for trade, retail and online customers.
Freight Transfers:
helping coordinate and transport inventory from offices in Blaine, WA to Surrey, BC as needed.
Online Data Validation:
Ensuring that our online metadata and inventory counts are accurate and being distributed correctly and accurately.
Online Marketing Support:
Helping with online marketing campaigns through social media channels and other online platforms.
Physical Abilities:
Must be capable of lifting 50lbs.
Vehicle Access:
Must have a vehicle, clean driving record, current license and ideally able to transport some inventories in personal vehicle. Personal mileage will be compensated.
Passport:
Must be able to cross the US/CAN border at Pacific Hwy crossings at Blaine, WA. Cross border trips are usually 3-4 times per month.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
required for the position: Experience in sales, retail or similar industries, shipping & handling, logistics coordination, etc. would all be considered an asset. Online e-commerce experience and previous experience working with Amazon and/or Shopify would be considered to be asset. Familiarity with the publishing or book industry would be considered to be an asset. Strong written and spoken English. Proficiencies in Microsoft Office, Dropbox and Google Drive. Familiarity with managing social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel to our offices. A vehicle capable of transporting cases of books would be considered an asset (ie: mini van, SUV, truck with canopy, etc) Be able to provide solid work references upon request.
LOCATION
This position is based out of our Blaine, WA offices with some travel required to our south Surrey offices only 5min from Pacific Highway Crossing. Limited work-from-home opportunities will exist for this role.
WORK SCHEDULES & COMPENSATION
Position is a 1-year contract with potential for extension based upon performance. Pay rate $18-22 USD/hr less mandatory deductions. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. A trailing commission based on online sales performance could be explored for the right candidate. This position has a somewhat flexible scheduling and vacation time, provided work is being accomplished in a timely and satisfactory manner. A 6 month probationary period will exist prior to finalizing compensation. Candidates only interested in the shipping/receiving portion of the job are also welcomed to apply.
