Yard and Warehouse Specialist Department:

Full-Time, Non-Exempt Position Summary The Yard and Warehouse Specialist is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement, staging, and handling of reels, raw materials, and equipment throughout the shop and outdoor lot. This role carries out the day-to-day physical work of loading, unloading, and repositioning material, and plays a direct part in keeping inventory counts accurate and the yard organized. This position reports to the Yard and Warehouse Lead and follows their direction on load priority, staging locations, and daily task assignments. Key Responsibilities Yard & Shop Organization Keep the shop floor and outdoor lot clean, organized, and free of hazards or obstructions. Stage incoming and outgoing reels in designated areas to support smooth traffic flow and efficient loading. Return tools, equipment, and materials to their proper storage locations after use. Support 5S / housekeeping standards and follow established storage locations so materials remain easy to locate and count. Inventory Support Assist with physical and cycle counts as directed by the Yard and Warehouse Lead. Flag low stock, missing items, or storage issues to the Yard and Warehouse Lead. Forklift & Material Handling Safely operate a forklift and other material handling equipment to load, unload, stage, and transport reels, raw materials, and finished goods. Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns immediately. Follow all safety protocols and site traffic rules when operating equipment around pedestrians, vehicles, and other yard activity. Handle materials carefully to prevent product damage, and report any damaged goods encountered during handling. Loading & Outbound Support Load and position reels and materials onto outbound trucks as directed by the Yard and Warehouse Lead. Assist the Yard and Warehouse Lead in verifying that loaded product matches the order or Bill of Lading (BOL) before departure. Communicate promptly with the Yard and Warehouse Lead about any discrepancies, shortages, or issues discovered during loading. Receiving & Put-Away Assist with unloading and receiving incoming materials, supplies, and equipment. Move received materials to their designated storage or staging location according to yard layout and labeling. Report any incoming damaged, missing, or incorrect items to the Yard and Warehouse Lead. Follow established procedures for logging or documenting material movement. Reel Building & Shop Support Organize and clean the yard and shop on an ongoing basis. Break down reels that are not in use, and build reels as needed to support production. Ensure the shop is stocked with the reels needed for ongoing work. Cut pipe off spools as required and assist with regrind work when needed. Additional Duties Follow all workplace safety and PPE requirements at all times. Communicate clearly and work cooperatively with production, shipping, and receiving staff. Perform other duties as assigned by the Yard and Warehouse Lead or Supply Chain and Logistics Manager. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Prior experience in a warehouse, yard, or material handling environment preferred; will train the right candidate. Forklift certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification upon hire. Ability to safely lift and move materials up to 50 lbs regularly, with occasional heavier team lifts. Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Basic counting, labeling, and record-keeping skills to support accurate inventory. Strong attention to safety, with the ability to follow PPE and site traffic rules consistently. Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Current forklift operator certification. Work Environment & Physical Requirements On-site role based at Conduit Direct Group's Hiawatha, IA shop and yard. Regular exposure to outdoor conditions, moving equipment, and shop/warehouse noise levels. Frequent lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods; regular use of a forklift and other material handling equipment.
