The Pesticide Coordinator is responsible for administering and enforcing the Tribal Pesticide Enforcement Program in accordance with tribal laws and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. The position oversees pesticide inspections, investigations, compliance monitoring, enforcement activities, and emergency response while maintaining required certifications and regulatory agreements with EPA Region 8. Responsibilities include developing and implementing program policies, quality assurance plans, integrated pest management strategies, and environmental protection initiatives; coordinating training and certification programs; conducting community outreach and education; preparing grant applications, budgets, and required reports; maintaining program records and financial accounts; and collaborating with tribal, federal, state, and local agencies to protect public health, natural resources, and the environment.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Enforce the Tribal Pesticide Ordinance by conducting inspections, investigations, and compliance monitoring in accordance with federal, tribal, and EPA regulations. Develop, update, and implement pesticide enforcement policies, quality assurance plans, emergency response procedures, integrated pest management (IPM) strategies, and other program requirements to maintain compliance with EPA standards. Coordinate and provide pesticide inspector and certified applicator training, maintain required certifications, and ensure compliance with Worker Protection Standards. Conduct public education and outreach on pesticide safety and environmental protection while maintaining partnerships with the EPA, tribal, federal, state, and local agencies. Manage program funding and cuff accounts, prepare grant applications and continuation proposals, and submit all required financial, programmatic, and regulatory reports to Tribal leadership and the EPA. Respond to environmental complaints, conduct pesticide use assessments and random inspections, maintain tribal pesticide data and needs assessments, and develop strategies to reduce environmental and public health risks.
