Position Summary As a Pre-Treatment Program Coordinator , you will be instrumental in enhancing water quality through managing our industrial pretreatment, stormwater, and emerging contaminants programs. Reporting to the Water Quality Manager, you will utilize your expertise to ensure regulatory compliance, conduct inspections, and analyze data—all while working within a safety-first, supportive environment. Key Responsibilities Pretreatment Program Management Oversee the Industrial Pretreatment Program to ensure compliance with federal (40 CFR Part 403), state, and local regulations, including VPDES permits and Sewer Use Ordinances. Review monthly reports from Significant Industrial Users (SIUs) for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory adherence using established QA/QC protocols. Conduct annual on-site inspections (approx. 3-4 times a year) to evaluate operations, waste streams, and pretreatment systems. Draft and issue discharge permits for new SIUs, including pre-permit site assessments. Prepare regulatory reports, annual documentation, and other compliance-related deliverables in a timely manner. Maintain precise, organized records of inspections, permits, enforcement actions, and monitoring data for audit purposes. Collaborate with other utilities and stay informed on regulatory updates to advise management on compliance strategies. Emerging Contaminants & Stormwater Management Manage PFAS sampling programs by coordinating with labs and contractors to ensure accurate, timely results. (No chemistry expertise needed; training on sample collection provided.) Perform quarterly sampling on PFAS, priority pollutants, and stormwater runoff to monitor compliance. Analyze PFAS data and report findings to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), ensuring regulatory adherence and accurate documentation. What You Bring Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Civil, Mechanical, Sanitary or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field. Minimum of 5 years' experience in industrial pretreatment, environmental compliance, wastewater treatment, or related regulatory programs. Knowledge & Skills Strong understanding of the Clean Water Act, NPDES permits, EPA Pretreatment Standards, and local wastewater regulations. Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail, especially regarding QA/QC procedures. Ability to interpret complex data and generate comprehensive reports. Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) - company vehicles will be used for field inspections. Effective communicator with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment & Requirements Schedule:
Primarily office-based in Alexandria, VA, Monday through Friday. Field inspections will be conducted 3-4 times annually.
Post-Probation:
Opportunity to telecommute one day per week based on performance and operational needs.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
