The Preserve's 20,000 acres are home to a lively community of just under 300 families and a team of talented staff. Our Gatehouse at 1 Rancho San Carlos Road is just a few minutes from Highway 1 in Carmel. A scenic, winding road takes you into the heart of the Preserve in just 20 minutes. At the Santa Lucia Preserve, our main priority is to deliver exceptional service with grace and professionalism, demonstrating our commitment to genuinely care for and exceed the expectations of our members and their guests. In this entry level position as a Water Systems Technician I your primary focus will be to assist experienced water and wastewater systems operators and technicians in carrying out daily monitoring, maintenance, repair and construction activities.
Other duties include:
Works cooperatively with the Water & Wastewater Operations team while developing practical knowledge of District systems, equipment, safety procedures, and field operations. Accurately read and record data from service and well meter registers and perform well sounding as assigned. Assist with monitoring, maintenance, repair, and construction of water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment, and wastewater collection systems. Assist with routine septic inspections and septic system modifications as directed by a supervisor or inspector. Remove and repair various paving materials and perform general site restoration following utility work. Perform general maintenance activities including vegetation trimming, job-site cleanup, painting, and upkeep of buildings, fences, wells, pressure-reducing-valve vaults, and related facilities. Operate assigned large and small equipment used in construction, cleaning, maintenance, and repair in accordance with department training and demonstrated proficiency. Perform excavations near existing utilities and infrastructure in accordance with training, direction, and established safety procedures. Assist with traffic control and work-zone setup as assigned. Work cooperatively with operators, technicians, and supervisors and communicate field observations, hazards, and equipment concerns promptly. Maintain tools, vehicles, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition. Participate in after-hours, weekend, and emergency response as assigned.
Qualifications include:
Ability and willingness to learn water and wastewater system operations, maintenance practices, construction methods, and safety requirements. Working knowledge of common hand and power tools and the ability to safely operate assigned equipment after training. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, work effectively as part of a team, and complete assigned tasks reliably. Basic computer skills and willingness to learn department technology and recordkeeping systems. Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License.
