Performs entry level work involving basic cleaning and maintenance of lift stations, water distribution and wastewater collection systems and water treatment plant facilities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Florida Department of Environmental Protection licensed crew member. Work will be closely reviewed by a Crew Leader and the Field Service Manager while in progress and upon completion. Performs related work as required.
Performs a variety of routine to moderately complex labor intensive work in maintenance and repair of water treatment, water distribution and sewage collection facilities, always using proper safety procedures. Routine tasks are performed with some independence. More difficult work is performed under supervision. Identifies existing or potential facility or equipment failure, and reports the problem to supervisor. This list of essential functions is representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if the functions is a logical assignment to the position.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
(Illustrative Only) Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of water lines, sanitary sewer lines, lift stations, valves, concrete meter vaults, manholes, fire hydrants and canal crossings including air release valves; restores sidewalks, curb stops, roads, and sod/landscaping after completion of repairs. Dig and refill ditches, load dirt and construction materials. Perform lawn maintenance activities. Operates various gasoline powered tools and equipment in the repair of lines; uses various hand tools on a daily basis. Locates underground utility lines (electric, cable, etc.) prior to beginning construction. Performs related work as required. Employees must possess the stamina to lift heavy articles or perform strenuous work for extended periods of time. Requires some knowledge of a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks with the ability to learn occupational hazards and the safety precautions needed to avoid injuries. Must possess the basic skills of reading, writing and speaking English, with the ability to follow written and oral instructions in English. Employees in this class must possess a basic knowledge of the manual and power tools associated with general construction, plumbing, and maintenance. They must also be familiar with the safe operation of all grounds keeping mowers and associated tools.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess high school diploma or GED and a valid FL driver license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the essential functions of this job employees frequently utilize arms, hands and feet to walk, stand, reach, bend, squat, stoop, climb ladders, and shovel dirt/sand/rock. May occasionally be required to lift, push and/or pull heavy articles (not to exceed 45 pounds without assistance). Work is occasionally performed in confined spaces. Hearing and visual acuity, with or without correction, are required. Reasonable accommodations will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed outdoors, therefore employee may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions including excessive heat, humidity, cold, wind, or rain. May experience intermittent exposure to disagreeable odors from grease, waste, and other malodorous conditions, as well as occasional elevated noise levels.
