Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Sanitation Technician Cleans and sterilizes complex plant machinery and equipment in all areas of the plant. Sets up cleaning system. Measures and mixes chemicals accurately. Uses the appropriate cleaning agents for specified situations. Follows standardized safety measures when using chemicals. Starts, stops, assembles, disassembles and reassembles plant machinery and equipment for proper cleaning. Ensures safe shutdown and safety lock-out of equipment prior to sterilization and cleaning. Completes appropriate paperwork. Reports any concerns or signs of product tampering to the Supervisor immediately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Performs other assignments or duties as required.) Cleans and sterilizes complex plant machinery using cleaning solutions, water hose, rags, etc. Must be available to work 2 or 3 shifts. Sets water temperature in the cleaning system. Cleans all areas of plant and machinery. Turns machinery off before disassembling for cleaning and turns machinery on after reassembling machinery after cleaning has been completed. Ensures safe shutdown and safety lock-out- tag- out of all equipment prior to cleaning and sterilization. Signs out chemicals from chemical storage areas. Measures and mixes chemicals. Cleans floors around machinery and hand scrubs railings as required. Visually inspects machinery for potential maintenance problems and verbally notify supervisor. Examines machinery for starch and mold buildup and cleans with bleach. Removes barrels of waste to waste hopper and empties. Picks up waste hopper and moves outside to receiving drop off. Completes appropriate paperwork regarding chemical and pesticide usage. Reports any Food Safety, Food Quality issues to supervisor immediately
QUALIFCATION AND SKILL
SQF GMPs Lock out
Tagout Hazardous Chemicals Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required; additional certifications in sanitation or health safety may be preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience in sanitation, cleaning, or a related field is often beneficial.
Skills:
Strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow safety guidelines are essential for this role.
ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND SAFETY GEAR
Wears personal protective equipment. Wears a respirator. Uses a utility knife and other small hand tools. Uses shovel, bucket, sprayer, hose, squeegee, etc.
