Operator - Level 1

Job Description

This is a Union position that involves the routine operation of single motor vehicles up to 26,000 pounds GVW and equipment assigned to the Public Works Department as outlined in City Vehicle / Equipment List. Work is performed under the supervision of the Street Superintendent or Assistant Street Superintendent who assigns and reviews completed work for quality, quantity and adherence to schedule. Saint Marys Residency Is Required .
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Operates vehicles and equipment to perform assigned work to meet City needs. Performs manual labor and operates power tools and accessory equipment. Maintains City streets and roadways for safe passage of residents to include plowing snow and sand/salting. Plows and performs winter maintenance on City sidewalks and parking lots. Repairs potholes, cleans catch basins, installs signs, mows, pick-up trash/leaves and maintain sanitary and storm water sewers. Regular attendance at work site. Assists Level 2 Operators on assigned jobs. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment being operated to include cleaning, lubricating equipment and performing minor repairs. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as needed or directed by Management.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Knowledge of Pennsylvania Traffic Laws. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures required to do job/task. Skill in operating vehicle/equipment on or off road and under various conditions. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to keep records on assigned job/tasks as required. Ability to make minor equipment repairs. Willingness to accept training including first aid, CPR, and other training identified as required by management. Ability to work with others as part of a team. Willingness to work overtime or respond to call outs as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma/GED required Two years' experience in the operation of trucks or light off-road equipment desired An equivalent of education, experience, and/or training may be considered. Valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle License Must Reside in The City of St. Marys, PA, 15857 or be willing to relocate within six months.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time union position, normal days and hours of work are 8 hours daily Monday - Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works outside in all weather conditions. The employee will travel frequently to work sites as necessary.
