SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
Operates motorized equipment and vehicles, serves as crew member and is responsible for maintenance of equipment and vehicles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents of this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Spreads base material, asphalt mix and other materials in repair and maintenance of streets, sets concrete forms and pours concrete, constructs and improves drainage facilities; installs traffic signs, works on signal lights, cuts and mows grass; performs mosquito control; cleans drainage areas; makes minor vehicle and equipment repairs; performs carpentry for building repair; performs other street and drainage related duties. May assist in other departments as directed. Work Environment and Physical Demands The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of the body, and to physically maneuver over and/or pond varying terrain, surfaces or physical structures. Must have minimal levels of eyes, hand and foot coordination. Requires the ability to lift more than 50 pounds. Position requires color, texture and depth perceptions as well as the ability to see, hear, speak, smell and taste. Must be able to work in varied conditions, surroundings and all-weather conditions. At times, we may have to work in adverse environmental and hazardous conditions to include mechanical, electrical, fume odor, dust/mist, chemicals and other solid waste substances. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Knowledge of the mechanical operations of both light and heavy equipment and vehicles; common tools, materials and methods used in maintenance and construction work. Mechanical skill required in operation of equipment. Ability to operate equipment carefully and safely; follow oral and written directions, make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and vehicles; ability to work as a member of a team. Regular attendance is essential. The incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves or others. Unscheduled overtime and response to emergency situations may be required. Minimum Education, Experience and Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent; Texas Commercial Drivers License Class B minimum with Air Brake endorsements; previous experience with required mechanical aptitude and ability; familiarity with maintenance techniques. Must submit and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background check. Subject to random drug screening as required by Texas DOT.
Salary range:
$51,958.71 to $66,313.94 annually Employee benefits: Employees receive paid medical, life and dental insurance; optional dependent insurance at employee expense, TMRS Retirement, 5-year vesting, 7% employee contribution, City match 2-1; sick and vacation leave, paid holidays optional deferred compensation plan.
