Position Status :

Full time; non-exempt General Description This position ensures that all City streets and rights-of-way are maintained and landfill operations are orderly and efficient. Operators may be required to work outside of normal business hours as needed. Knowledge and experience in operating machinery is required for this position. Reporting Relationship(s) Reports to: Street Maintenance/Landfill Director Essential Position Functions

• Maintains and repairs all streets, curbs, gutters, and other areas in City rights-of-way.
• Mows and shreds grass; trim trees.
• Repairs and replaces street signs.
• Paints pavement markings and striping.
• Operates a variety of heavy equipment including backhoes, track loaders, graders, etc.
• Reads water and electric meters as needed.
• Operate and manage landfill scales; pick up trash at landfill and other areas.
• Perform vector control as needed.
• Assist in demolition of structures as needed.
• Assist the Animal Control Officer as needed.
• Otherwise assist in the basic operation, inspection, and maintenance of a variety of vehicles, tools and light and heavy equipment.
• Perform labor intensive work and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) 1. Willing to take the initiative to perform the functions listed without being assigned and perform job tasks with minimal supervision. 2.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. 3.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of or ability to learn the listed position functions. Knowledge and experience in operating various types of heavy machinery. 4.

Skill:

Safely drive a motor vehicle (valid Texas Class C driver s license required). 5.

Ability:

Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds; entails pushing and pulling, reaching at or above and below shoulder height. Continuous eye and hand coordinated movements. Safe operation of tools and equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and other officials. Work irregular schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Able to obtain a Texas Class B driver s license. Able to obtain an MSW (landfill operator) license. Preferred Qualifications 1. A minimum of a Texas Class B driver's license 2. Experience in or operating at a TCEQ certified landfill with an MSW license. 3. Experience in street maintenance or similar work. ADA Essential Job Functions
