The Waste Area Technician is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality, and overall appearance of the dairy farm's waste management areas, equipment, and surrounding grounds. This position plays an important role in supporting environmental compliance, equipment reliability, and overall farm operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, and willing to work as part of a team. This role requires someone who is flexible and willing to assist other departments as operational needs arise.
Work Schedule Regular schedule:
6:00 AM - 4:00 PM Five days per week One weekend per month required Overtime may be required based on operational needs Essential Duties and Responsibilities Waste Area Maintenance Perform daily inspection, cleaning, and upkeep of the waste management area and associated equipment. Clean and wash screening systems, equipment, and surrounding work areas using pressure washers, fire hoses, and other cleaning equipment. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas to support efficient farm operations. Monitor waste handling equipment and report maintenance concerns promptly. Grounds Maintenance Mow, shred, trim, and maintain vegetation around waste ponds, drainage areas, access roads, and crossover areas. Keep waste area grounds clean, well-maintained, and free of debris. Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance and general property upkeep. Equipment Inspection and Care Conduct bi-weekly inspections of farm equipment, including tractors, loaders, skid steers, and other assigned equipment.

Engine oil Hydraulic fluid Coolant Fuel levels Tire condition General equipment condition Blow out air filters, radiators, engine compartments, and cooling systems to reduce debris buildup. Identify equipment issues and report repair needs to the Maintenance Department. Maintain accurate inspection logs and preventative maintenance records. Operational Support Safely operate farm equipment when needed. Assist with light maintenance tasks as assigned. Support other maintenance or farm operations during busy periods or emergency situations. Assist with special projects as assigned by management. Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED preferred. Experience Previous experience in agriculture, dairy operations, maintenance, landscaping, or industrial operations preferred. Mechanical aptitude or light maintenance experience preferred. Preferred Skills Experience operating heavy equipment such as: Front-end loaders Skid steers Tractors Experience with pressure washers and industrial cleaning equipment. Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance practices. Ability to safely operate power equipment and hand tools. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong work ethic and dependable attendance. Team-oriented with a willingness to assist wherever needed. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Good organizational and communication skills. Basic mechanical aptitude. Ability to identify equipment concerns before they become major repairs. Commitment to workplace safety and environmental stewardship. Physical Requirements Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb stairs throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance. Ability to operate pressure washers, fire hoses, and powered equipment. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Comfortable working around livestock, waste management systems, water, mud, dust, and uneven terrain. Working Conditions Outdoor dairy farm environment. Exposure to changing weather conditions, noise, dust, mud, moisture, and agricultural equipment. Regular use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. Daily Reporting Requirements The Waste Area Technician is responsible for completing a daily report documenting work completed, equipment inspections, and any maintenance or operational concerns.
