Job Description

Employment Status:
Full-time Temporary Position. M-F schedule
Experience Required:
Experience related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Other training and experience will be evaluated for relevance to assignment in this position class.

Special Conditions of Work:
Outdoor work; adverse working conditions due to odor or debris. Temporary position - positions will conclude at the end of applicable work season, as determined by operational needs and conditions. Must be 18 years or older.
Certifications:
Valid Wyoming Driver's License.
General description:
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work associated with maintenance of city/county landfill.
Major tasks:
Operates various heavy equipment to work similar types of refuse into certain areas as designated. Operates compactor, loader, track loader, and rental equipment to work various types of materials (animal pit, solid waste, concrete, asphalt, brush pits, and various composting materials, etc.). Operates loader, tractor, bucket truck, atv in and around landfill area. Operate recycling equipment. Assist transfer station and scale house operators as needed. Able to perform construction maintenance, screen, sign welding, and sign installation. Cleans outdoor areas of debris, clears ditches, clean out catch basins, and culverts. Mow, weed eat, pick up litter, maintain material drop off sites in town. Performs preventive maintenance and cleaning tasks on heavy equipment operated and all landfill buildings and scale equipment.
Minor tasks:
Cleans up indoor work area. Directs individuals to dumping areas; directs the dumping of city and county refuse according to directives. Assists in extinguishing fires at landfill. Maintain all assigned landfill records Maintain City of Douglas landfill equipment and property. Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge areas:
Methods, materials and equipment used in day-to-day sanitation operations, preventive maintenance, state, federal and local solid waste regulations, and proper safety procedures relating to equipment operation.
Skill/ability areas:
Skill in the operation of heavy equipment (backhoe/loader, solid waste compactors), perform moderately heavy manual tasks requiring work in difficult conditions, follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public, perform minor equipment repairs, and keep accurate records.
