Mariachi Campana de Riverside Position Overview Riverside Arts Academy seeks an accomplished mariachi educator and performer to serve as a Teaching Artist for Mariachi Campana de Riverside , RAA's premier youth mariachi ensemble. Working collaboratively with two co-teaching artists, this position holds primary responsibility for the ensemble's rehearsals, artistic preparation, and student development. The Teaching Artist directs rehearsals; teaches mariachi technique, musicianship, style, and repertoire; and ensures that students are prepared to meet Riverside Arts Academy's learning standards, jury requirements, and performance expectations. RAA students receive high-quality music instruction and mentorship at no cost to their families, along with loaned instruments for the duration of their participation. Riverside Arts Academy is a member of El Sistema USA and is committed to providing rigorous, joyful, and accessible music education that supports the artistic and personal growth of every student. Employment Status and Schedule This is a part-time, seasonal, as-needed, at-will position . Employment is based on current organizational and programmatic needs, with no guarantee of minimum hours, continuous employment, or renewal from one season to the next. Anticipated hours are approximately 3-8 hours per week during the academic year , including rehearsals, performances, meetings, and related program responsibilities. Some summer teaching or performance opportunities may be available. Compensation begins at $50 per hour , commensurate with Riverside Arts Academy's Teaching Artist schedule of wages. Qualifications The successful candidate will bring substantial professional mariachi performance experience and exceptional proficiency teaching mariachi music authentically to young people. Candidates should possess strong knowledge of mariachi repertoire, traditions, technique, rehearsal practices, and performance standards, along with the ability to direct a complete ensemble and teach students across multiple instruments and levels of experience. Candidates must demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, organization, classroom-management, and student-mentorship skills, as well as a commitment to high artistic standards, student-centered teaching, and the mission and principles of Riverside Arts Academy and El Sistema. Proficiency in Spanish is strongly preferred. A bachelor's degree in music or equivalent professional experience is preferred. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks, reference checks, onboarding requirements, training, and assessments. Primary Responsibilities Direct rigorous, engaging, and culturally authentic rehearsals Establish clear expectations for preparation, attendance, conduct, and artistic growth, ensuring that students are progressing toward RAA learning standards and are prepared for juries, auditions, concerts, competitions, and other performances. Coordinate repertoire, instructional priorities, student feedback, and individual support with co-teaching artists and RAA program leadership Communicate effectively with students and families regarding practice expectations, individual goals, schedules, performances, and program requirements, while cultivating a disciplined, inclusive, collaborative, and joyful ensemble culture. Support students' artistic, social-emotional, and personal development Contribute to student recruitment, auditions, placement, retention, and advancement Participate in required meetings, professional development, and assessments Represent Mariachi Campana de Riverside and Riverside Arts Academy professionally at performances, competitions, media appearances, community events, donor functions, and other public engagements. The Teaching Artist will also support the responsible care and use of instruments, music, equipment, uniforms, and other program resources and perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting and Assignments This position reports to the Director of Programs & Partnerships . Teaching assignments, rehearsal schedules, performance responsibilities, sites, and hours are determined according to current organizational needs.
