Job Description

Chorale Coeur d'Alene seeks an exceptional Artistic Director & Conductor to lead one of the Inland Northwest's premier community choruses beginning in January 2027. Founded in 2001, Chorale Coeur d'Alene is an auditioned community chorus dedicated to artistic excellence, meaningful community connection, and lifelong musical growth. Following a recent Carnegie Hall residency and the celebration of its 25th season, the Chorale is entering an exciting new chapter of artistic leadership. Recent repertoire has included works by Dan Forrest, Gabriel Fauré, Ralph Vaughan Williams, John Rutter, and other significant composers from the choral canon and contemporary repertoire. The Chorale is known for high artistic standards, a committed membership, and a collaborative culture that values both excellence and community. About the Organization
  • Auditioned community chorus of approximately 100-125 singers
  • 16-voice auditioned chamber ensemble
  • Four concert programs annually
  • Dedicated volunteer leadership and strong organizational support
  • Established audience and growing regional reputation Responsibilities The Artistic Director & Conductor serves as the artistic leader of the organization and will:
  • Develop and communicate the artistic vision of the Chorale
  • Select and program repertoire that balances artistic excellence, singer engagement, and audience appeal
  • Plan and conduct rehearsals, auditions, retreats, and performances
  • Provide artistic oversight for the chamber ensemble and affiliated ensembles
  • Foster singer growth through effective teaching and musicianship
  • Recruit and retain singers through positive musical leadership
  • Recommend and engage instrumentalists and guest artists within approved budgets
  • Collaborate effectively with the Board of Directors and volunteer leadership
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for the Chorale within the organization, our patrons, and the community Qualifications Preferred qualifications include graduate study in conducting, music education, vocal performance, church music, or a related field.
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Outstanding choral conducting, rehearsal planning, and rehearsal technique
  • A genuine enthusiasm for building musical community
  • Strong vocal pedagogy and teaching skills
  • Experience leading volunteer or community-based choral ensembles
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with employing technology for teaching and administration
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities
  • Knowledge of a broad range of choral repertoire
  • Demonstrated ability to program repertoire that balances artistic excellence, singer engagement, and audience appeal Time Commitment This is a part-time position that includes weekly rehearsals, semi-annual auditions, seasonal retreats, performances, artistic planning, and periodic meetings.
Residence within the Inland Northwest is preferred. Candidates from outside the region are welcome to apply. Transition The successful candidate will begin artistic planning and transition activities during Fall 2026, including preparation for full artistic leadership in the Spring 2027 season beginning January 1st. Compensation
  • 21 month contract.
  • $1,666.67 monthly Oct 2026 - June 2027 (prorated depending on start date).
  • July 2027 - June 2028: $21,000; paid as $1750 monthly
