Permanent Full - Time Step into a leadership role with a growing residential smart-home integration company that values technical excellence and craftsmanship. This is a hands-on position where you'll lead complex, high-end smart-home projects, work directly with homeowners, and be recognised and rewarded for delivering outstanding customer experiences. As Lead Technician, you will take ownership of end-to-end installation, integration, and commissioning of residential smart-home systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to a high technical standard. You will oversee on-site work, guide junior team members, and serve as the primary technical point of contact for both customers and the Project Manager/Owner. Your work will directly impact system performance, client satisfaction, and the company's reputation for quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on-site installation, configuration, and integration of residential smart-home systems, including control platforms, audio/video, networking, lighting control, and motorized shades. Oversee and coordinate daily project activities, ensuring work is completed according to plans, timelines, and quality standards. Perform advanced system programming, testing, and commissioning to deliver fully functional, user-friendly solutions. Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, providing structured troubleshooting and clear documentation of findings and resolutions. Interface directly with homeowners and contractors on-site, communicating project status, system capabilities, and any required changes. Mentor and support junior technicians, delegating tasks and providing on-the-job training to ensure consistent workmanship. Collaborate with the Owner/Project Manager on project planning, equipment needs, and technical approach for upcoming jobs. Maintain a clean, organised job site and ensure proper use and care of company vehicle, tools, and equipment.
Key Requirements:
5+ years of field experience specifically in residential home integration, working for a smart-home integration company. 2+ years of experience functioning as a Lead Technician on residential integration projects. 5+ years of hands-on networking experience, including router/switch configuration, Wi-Fi deployment, and network troubleshooting. 2+ years of control-system programming experience with at least one major home-automation/control platform. Proven experience installing, integrating, and servicing home automation, audio/video, networking, lighting control, motorized shades, structured wiring, and system integration. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to methodically identify and resolve complex system and network issues. Ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, and documentation, and translate them into practical on-site implementation. Professional communication skills with the ability to work directly with homeowners, builders, and other trades. Reliable transportation to the office/shop for dispatch and willingness to work a Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM schedule. Ability and willingness to supply and maintain your own hand tools appropriate for the role.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with Control4, Savant, Crestron, or similar residential control platforms. Background in security systems and Alarm.com integrations. Experience with Lutron lighting and motorized shade solutions. Proven experience selling or upselling motorized shades or related smart-home solutions. Exposure to additional home-automation platforms and ecosystems. Prior experience leading multiple projects or crews in a residential integration environment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical trade school or associate degree in electronics, IT, or related field preferred. CEDIA certification preferred at hire; if not certified, must be capable of passing the CEDIA Integrated Systems Technician (IST) exam. Commitment and ability to obtain/pass the
CEDIA IST
certification within approximately 30 days of hire. Relevant manufacturer certifications (e.g., Control4, Savant, Crestron, Lutron, networking vendors) are a plus.
