Full Job Description Position Summary:
We are seeking a vigilant, detail-oriented Network Monitor to watch our network end-to-end and flag anomalies of all kinds — technical and aesthetic — before they affect viewers. This role is the first line of defense for on-air quality, covering everything from signal and connectivity issues to graphics, ticker, and content errors. The ideal candidate is attentive, reacts quickly, and communicates clearly with engineering and outside vendors to resolve issues fast.
Key Responsibilities:
Continuously monitor the network across all lines/channels for anomalies, both technical (signal loss, latency, connectivity, equipment faults) and aesthetics (graphics errors, misspellings, ticker timing, formatting issues). Identify irregularities as they arise and determine appropriate urgency and escalation path. Alert engineering and relevant teams promptly when issues are detected, providing clear details to speed resolution. Monitor and support live events, ensuring network stability and coordinating with production/technical teams as needed. Review on-screen content (graphics, tickers, lower-thirds) for accuracy and correct timing. Act as a point of contact with third-party vendors (e.g., CTS playout) to coordinate schedules and resolve discrepancies. Track, log, and report anomalies and their resolutions for ongoing quality review. Help maintain and continuously improve the overall viewer experience across linear and other distribution channels.
Qualifications:
Strong attention to detail across both technical and visual/content elements. Ability to recognize anomalies and judge when/how to escalate. Clear, effective communication skills for working with engineering, production, and external vendors. Comfortable monitoring multiple feeds/sources simultaneously in a fast-paced, live event environment. Experience in network operations, broadcast operations, master control, or quality control is a plus. Schedule aligned with live programming and event demands, including a willingness to work non-standard hours such as evenings and weekends based on broadcast and event schedules. Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Proven organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with standard business tools and technology relevant to the role. Chicago Sports Enthusiast a plus.
What We Offer:
We believe great work happens when people feel supported, valued, and inspired. Here's what you can look forward to as part of our team: Paid time off and sick leave in accordance with City of Chicago guidelines—so you can rest, recharge, and prioritize your well‑being. Life Insurance plus Short‑Term and Long‑Term Disability for added peace of mind. A robust 401(k) retirement plan to help you plan for your future. Exclusive access to sports and entertainment events—because fun matters. Complimentary catered lunch every Monday through Friday (yes, really!). Free on‑site parking, keeping your commute stress‑free. The hourly pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00, based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and job-related skills.
