Position Overview The Director of Creative Production Technologies provides administrative, operational, and technical leadership for Marywood University's theatrical and film production facilities. This role bridges live stage and screen by managing technical operations, executing structural and lighting designs, and mentoring undergraduate students in set construction, lighting techniques, and stage management.

Key Responsibilities Production & Fabrication Set Fabrication:

Direct hands-on carpentry, metal welding, and scenic painting for theatrical stages and film soundstages.

Structural Engineering:

Ensure load-bearing safety and mechanical compliance for multi-level sets and studio walls.

Stage & Workflow Management:

Establish build schedules, load-ins, tech weeks, and strike timelines.

Lighting & Studio Electrics Lighting Execution:

Implement theatrical light plots and soundstage layouts while ensuring safe electrical distribution.

System Maintenance:

Oversee digital consoles, intelligent fixtures, studio dimmers, grids, and green-screen setups.

Creative Collaboration:

Partner with directors and cinematographers to achieve target visual and atmospheric effects.

Mentorship & Operations Student Instruction:

Teach practical fabrication, lighting tech, and safety skills.

Crew Supervision:

Train backstage theatre running crews and film set grip crews.

Safety & Compliance:

Serve as chief safety officer, enforcing OSHA guidelines and inspecting rigging, flies, and power tools.

Financial Management:

Manage scenic and lighting budgets, analyze material costs, and handle vendor relationships.

Facility Management:

Maintain the official schedule of performance spaces on campus and serve as the point of contact for community partners regarding space specifications and operation for events.

Qualifications Experience & Education Degree:

Bachelor's Degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Design/Technology, Film/Television Production, or a related field (MFA preferred).

Professional Experience:

Minimum 3 years as a Director of Creative Production Technologies or equivalent, Master Carpenter, or Film Art Department Coordinator.

Cross-Discipline Skills:

Proven experience managing set construction and lighting execution for both live theatre and screen/film settings.

Academic Experience:

Minimum 1 year mentoring or supervising students in an academic or workshop production setting.

Technical Skills & Requirements Software & Tools:

Proficiency in Vectorworks or AutoCAD; expertise in rigging mechanics, counterweight fly systems, and soundstage grids.

Certification:

Active OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour General Industry Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).

Physical Demands:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb personnel lifts, and work at high elevations (catwalks/grids).

Schedule:

Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends during tech weeks and film shoot schedules.
