Senior Art Director

Job Description

Objective:
The Senior Art Director is a creative position that creates and leads the ministry's visual content to proclaim the good news of Jesus. The Senior Art Director improves the look of a multidisciplinary, multilingual content engine—including aesthetics for video, social media, graphic design, and book publication—according to the ministry's strategic plan, mission, vision, and brand. The position is approximately 80% hands-on work (four days per week) and 20% setting standards, engaging leaders, analyzing data, and teaching teammates (one day per week).
Responsibilities:
Content Creation and Recurring Production Designs still and video visual content to point people to Jesus, collaborating with Time of Grace's editors, designers, and directors for product campaigns. Completes work to produce six to approximately nine high-quality books per year. Oversees design of monthly mailings and newsletters and other printed material. Produces campaign video clips, overlays, and graphics. Manages Graphic Designer's work, including book covers, book page layouts, direct mail pieces, social media campaigns, communication collateral, and more. Participates in high-level premium planning brainstorm meetings to promote ideas for premium titles, designs, and style that are informed by past successfully marketed premium efforts. Offers creative campaign critique for titles, marketing, covers, colors, etc. Collaborates with Time of Grace teammates to perform post-monthly analysis of campaign success. Effectively communicates visually a Christian, biblical perspective on taboo or socially controversial topics with wisdom using a variety of media and platforms. Develops a thorough knowledge of Time of Grace's content library and resources in order to leverage them in campaign support and content development. Uses visuals to tell the story of the ministry's "why"—informing supporting donors and partners that "this" is the reason they give to Time of Grace. Aesthetic Authority Optimized by Platforms Leads the brand's addition of raw, authentic, and fast-paced aesthetic that's characteristic of TikTok, Instagram reels, and YouTube shorts. Ensures social media, videos, mailings, book layouts, and other resources reflect a modern, premium look that stands out in feeds, video libraries, on bookshelves, and resonates with a younger audience. Adopts trending methods, learns from business intelligence to engage more audience, and adapts to platform changes. Enables and teaches the rest of the organization to follow the brand aesthetics. Creative Innovation and Platform Expansion Suggests opportunistic, inventive calls on new technologies and new distribution mediums and helps pitch creative plans to speakers, writers, leaders, and teammates. Visual Courage Develops the branding for message series and content addressing sensitive or "off limits" topics (e.g., mental health, sexuality, addiction, politics). Purposeful Design Uses the Time of Grace personas, Bella and Daniel, as guides, directing content creators to invite people to be consumers of our content, particularly people who don't believe Jesus saves.
