/ Emcee As-Needed, Part-Time (Gig-Based) Modesto, CA Event-Driven Schedule, Primarily Evenings and Weekends About Floodjay Productions Floodjay Productions is a full-service Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL) company headquartered in Modesto, California. We partner with houses of worship, educational institutions, businesses, and community organizations to deliver world-class productions, design and install professional AV systems, and create meaningful experiences for the communities they serve. Our capabilities span live event production, DJ and photo booth services, system design and integration, equipment rentals, consulting, and ongoing maintenance. We're a lean, relational company that punches far above our weight. Our DJ and event services are growing, and this role puts you at the center of the moments our clients remember most. The Role We are building a roster of DJ/Emcees to serve school dances, corporate parties, church and community celebrations, and special events across the Central Valley. This is as-needed, gig-based work. You accept the events that fit your schedule, show up prepared, and own the energy of the room from the first song to the last announcement. This is a music and microphone role, not just a playlist role. We are looking for people who can mix, read a crowd, and speak with confidence, whether that means hyping a gym full of middle schoolers or gracefully guiding a corporate awards program. We welcome a variety of applicants. If you are an experienced DJ, we want to see what you can do. If you are newer with strong instincts and real potential, we provide paid training and pair you with a lead until you are ready to fly solo. Pay is tiered accordingly. All Equipment Provided You bring the talent. We bring everything else. Floodjay provides all professional equipment for every event, including controllers, laptops with licensed music libraries, speakers, microphones, and lighting. No personal mixer, controller, laptop, music library, or speakers are required, ever. Responsibilities On the Decks and the Mic DJ live events for schools, corporate clients, churches, and community gatherings, mixing music that fits the audience, the moment, and the client's standards Emcee events with a clear, confident, professional voice, making announcements, running games and activities, and keeping the program on schedule Read the crowd and adjust in real time, building energy when the room needs it and dialing it back when the moment calls for it Maintain clean, age-appropriate sets for school and church events, honoring every client's content guidelines without exception Around the Event Set up, operate, and tear down company-provided DJ, sound, and lighting equipment with care and attention to detail Interface with clients, event hosts, and venue staff as the face of Floodjay on-site Care for company equipment, report issues promptly, and follow load-in, load-out, and safety procedures Travel to event sites across the Central Valley and occasionally beyond Requirements Required Strong microphone and public speaking skills, with the ability to address a room with confidence and warmth Demonstrated ability to read a crowd and adapt music, energy, and pacing on the fly Comfort working with a wide range of audiences, from middle school students to corporate executives to church congregations Willingness to learn and work within Floodjay's systems, including VirtualDJ, our primary DJ software Reliable transportation, a valid California driver's license, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods Availability for evening and weekend events, with dependable communication when accepting or declining gigs Preferred Qualifications Proven experience DJing live events with smooth mixing and beatmatching skills, not just pressing play on a playlist Proficiency with VirtualDJ; experience with Serato, rekordbox, or similar platforms also valued Working knowledge of live sound, including signal flow, gain structure, EQ basics, and wireless microphones Experience emceeing full event programs such as dances, banquets, fundraisers, or receptions Background working events in school, youth, or ministry settings Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus for our Central Valley community events Who Thrives Here You take pride in your craft and consistently hold yourself to a high standard of excellence You engage with clients, students, and guests with professionalism and respect, particularly within faith-based and educational settings You communicate clearly and proactively, especially when issues arise that require attention You are energized by a live room and stay composed when the unexpected happens You are reliable. When you accept a gig, the client can count on you, period Pre-Employment Requirements Due to the nature of our work in school environments and with youth, all candidates must successfully complete the following before employment begins: Criminal background check and fingerprinting (DOJ/FBI, as required by California law for work with minors) Pre-employment drug screening These are non-negotiable requirements and apply to all candidates regardless of experience or references. $45.00 per hour, depending on experience and demonstrated skill Developing DJ $20
$24 per hour. Strong instincts, learning to mix; works events alongside a lead Solo DJ $25

Seasoned pro who emcees full programs and owns premium events Training Paid training on Floodjay equipment, software, and procedures Travel Mileage reimbursement per IRS standard rate when driving a personal vehicle to events Benefits This is an as-needed, gig-based position and is not benefits-eligible Schedule This role operates on an as-needed, event-driven basis. Most events take place on Friday and Saturday evenings, with occasional weekday and Sunday events. Gigs are offered in advance and you accept the ones that fit your schedule.
