The DJ Club provides students with a creative, collaborative space to explore the art, technology, and culture of disc jockeying and electronic music production. The club aims to empower students by teaching them the technical skills of mixing, blending, and sound engineering, while simultaneously developing their public speaking, event management, and entrepreneurial skills. Beyond the booth, the DJ Club serves the broader school community by providing musical entertainment and audio support for school spirit events, pep rallies, dances, and athletic games.
Position Summary:
The High School DJ Club Sponsor provides leadership, supervision, and technical guidance to students interested in the art of DJing, music production, and audio engineering. The sponsor fosters a creative, inclusive, and collaborative environment where students can learn technical skills, explore various musical genres, and build confidence through public performance. Additionally, the sponsor coordinates student DJ participation for school-sanctioned events, promoting school spirit and community engagement.
Qualifications :
Employment Status:
Current certified staff member or approved district employee preferred.
Technical Knowledge:
Familiarity with standard DJ hardware (controllers, mixers) and software (e.g., Serato, VirtualDJ, Rekordbox) is highly preferred, though a willingness to learn alongside students is welcome.
Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teenagers and foster a collaborative team dynamic. General Expectations for
Club/Activity Sponsor Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Club Leadership & Mentorship:
Organize and facilitate regular club meetings, workshops, and practice sessions. Teach or coordinate instruction on DJ equipment, mixing software, beatmatching, and sound system setup.
Event Coordination:
Oversee and approve student DJ bookings for school events (e.g., pep rallies, sports games, dances, and charity events), ensuring appropriate music selection and professional conduct.
Equipment Management:
Maintain, inventory, and safely store all club-owned DJ gear, audio equipment, and lighting. Advise on future equipment purchases within the allocated budget. |
Student Safety & Supervision:
Provide direct supervision to students during all club meetings and official off-hours events. Ensure a safe, respectful, and drug-free environment.
Content Moderation:
Ensure all music played or produced by the club aligns with school board policies regarding appropriate language and themes.
Work Schedule:
Meet once a week after school for 1.5 hours, August through May, as well as provide opportunities for club members to DJ at school and community events. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the Student Activities Director in accordance with district policies.
