Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated, outdoor-loving individual to join our team as a Pond Keeper. In this role, you will play a key part in maintaining our beautiful ponds, ensuring the health and well-being of our koi, and assisting with seasonal sales coordination. While prior experience with pond keeping is highly desirable, it is not strictly required. We are fully prepared to provide comprehensive, hands-on training for the right candidate. You will work directly alongside an experienced groundskeeper who knows the systems inside and out, meaning you will have continuous support, guidance, and assistance on the job. If you love working in nature, enjoy hands-on physical work, and want to learn the art and science of koi care and management, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities Filtration & Water Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance on pond filters, execute scheduled water changes, clear out algae, and keep the pond areas clean and functional.
Water Quality Testing:
Test and monitor water parameters (such as pH, ammonia, nitrite, and temperature) and track the data to determine when treatments or water changes are necessary.
Koi Health Monitoring:
Observe the koi daily for behavior, appetite, and any visible signs of stress or illness, reporting observations to the owner. (Training will be provided, and you will not be solely responsible for medical diagnoses).
Fish Handling & Care:
Assist in safely moving koi between ponds, transferring them to inspection tanks for health checks, and administering suggested treatments under guidance.
Seasonal Sales Coordination:
Assist with the coordination of koi sales during peak seasons. This includes helping select, catch, measure, and safely package or prep fish for buyers, as well as helping manage logistics or documentation during sales periods.
Collaborative Teamwork:
Partner with our resident groundskeeper to complete larger tasks, coordinate daily routines, and learn specialized pond-management techniques.
General Pond Support:
As a dedicated pond-focused role, duties will also include other tasks focused on maintaining the overall integrity of the ponds and assisting in the treatment and care of the koi or aquatic systems as necessary.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements The Great Outdoors:
The vast majority of this work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions. Tasks are highly seasonal, with different priorities depending on the time of year.
Comfort & Breaks:
While you will be working in the elements, you will have full access to an air-conditioned office and break area to cool down in the summer or warm up in the winter.
Physical Activity:
Must be comfortable standing, bending, lifting, and handling aquatic equipment and fish safely. Qualifications A genuine love for working outdoors and a strong work ethic. Prior experience with ponds, aquaculture, or fish keeping is a major plus, but not required. Experience with logistics, customer service, or sales coordination is helpful but we will train you on our specific processes. A willingness to learn, accept feedback, and follow specific protocols for animal care. Strong organizational and observational skills with a high attention to detail. Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively with our groundskeeper.
