This role is ideal for a designer with strong creative instincts, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to take ownership of assigned work. The Associate Designer supports our Lead and Senior Lead Designers in executing high-end residential projects while developing the judgment, technical skills, and accountability needed to grow within the studio. We are looking for someone who can contribute meaningful ideas, work within an established design direction, and reliably move assignments from concept through completion without constant follow-up. ResponsibilitiesDesign Development and Execution Execute the design direction established by the Principal Designer and Lead Designer Research furnishings, materials, finishes, fixtures, and styling elements Create mood boards, material and finish decks, flat lays, and presentation visuals Refine selections based on project scope, design intent, and budget Contribute thoughtful design ideas and practical solutions Help ensure selections work together to create a cohesive and elevated result Project and Deliverable Ownership Own assigned tasks and deliverables from start to completion Complete work within allocated hours and established deadlines Prepare accurate, organized work that is ready for internal review Identify questions, conflicts, and missing information before they affect the project timeline Bring potential solutions to the Lead Designer when escalating an issue Manage multiple assignments while maintaining quality and attention to detail Presentation and Client Meeting Support Prepare complete and organized materials for design presentations and client meetings Assist with documenting client feedback and selection decisions Maintain professionalism in client-facing environments Support the Lead Designer, who owns the client relationship and final design decisions Furnishings, Styling, and Budget Support Source furnishings, styling pieces, and décor that align with the approved design direction Work within established project budgets and category targets Identify potential budget or scope concerns early Assist the Lead Designer with refining selections when adjustments are needed This is a design-focused position. Ordering, tracking, receiving, and installation coordination are managed by our Operations and Procurement team. Project Organization and Documentation Maintain accurate and current digital project files Organize design decks, inspiration images, questionnaires, meeting notes, renderings, and drawings Follow studio standards for file naming, organization, and documentation Prepare materials for internal reviews and project milestone meetings Assist with build books, specifications, and other project documentation as directed Project Management Maintain assigned tasks, deadlines, and statuses in the studio's project management system Treat the project management system as the primary source of truth for assignments and timelines Take responsibility for ensuring the status of your work is accurately reflected Communicate early when additional information or support is needed Vendor and Trade Collaboration Identify vendors, products, and resources that support the design vision Participate in showroom visits and vendor meetings when appropriate Communicate vendor and product information to the Operations and Procurement Director Collaborate professionally with vendor and trade partners What We're Looking For Education or professional experience in interior design or a related field A portfolio demonstrating strong residential design ability Excellent visual judgment and attention to detail Strong knowledge of furnishings, materials, finishes, and color Ability to interpret and execute an established design direction Strong research, sourcing, organization, and documentation skills Budget awareness and the ability to source within defined parameters Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities Clear and professional written and verbal communication Willingness to receive feedback and apply it thoughtfully A proactive, solutions-oriented approach Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a design team Experience in high-end residential design is preferred. Associate Designer:
Completes assigned work accurately and on time Takes ownership without requiring repeated reminders Produces thoughtful work aligned with Homesmith Design standards Communicates questions and potential concerns early Keeps project files and task statuses organized and current Responds professionally to feedback Contributes positively to the momentum and culture of the studio Earns the trust of Lead Designers through consistency and follow-through Growth at Homesmith Design The Associate Designer position is intended to develop the skills, judgment, and experience required for increased responsibility within the studio. Advancement is based on the quality and consistency of your work, your ability to manage responsibilities independently, your communication and collaboration skills, and your readiness to take ownership of larger project scopes. Candidates will not be asked to create original design work for Homesmith Design as part of the application process.
