What you'll need to thrive: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly K-12 (preferred) Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or eligibility to obtain necessary state credentials Familiarity with Deaf culture and sensitivity to individual student needs Ability to collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other interpreters Professionalism, reliability, and the flexibility to adapt to dynamic classroom environments Key responsibilities: Interpret classroom instruction, school events, meetings, and activities for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students Accurately convey spoken information into ASL and vice versa, ensuring full access to academic content Maintain confidentiality regarding all student matters Adapt interpreting techniques to suit various subjects and student learning levels Foster a positive and respectful classroom climate that supports student participation Communicate effectively with teachers and support staff to align on goals and student progress Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as requested This contract role places you in a supportive educational atmosphere where your skills have a direct impact on student learning and engagement.
