School-based interpreters serve as a crucial communication bridge, ensuring equal access in classrooms, assemblies, and school events. This dynamic role requires professionalism, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Valid national certification (such as EIPA, RID, or NIC) or relevant state credentials for interpreting in educational settings Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and speech-to-sign/sign-to-speech interpreting Experience providing interpretation services in schools preferred, but not required Ability to interpret in one-on-one, small-group, and large-group educational contexts Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to the needs of students with diverse learning styles Excellent organizational skills, punctuality, and the ability to work independently as well as part of an educational team
Responsibilities:
