Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract To Hire Make a meaningful impact supporting students and educators as a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter working with schools in the Mesa, AZ area. This contract-to-hire opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about fostering accessibility in educational environments and collaborating with supportive, multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of interpreting techniques Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational or similar settings Ability to facilitate clear, effective communication between Deaf or hard-of-hearing students and staff Knowledge of Deaf culture, etiquette, and best practices in inclusive education Flexibility, professionalism, and a team-oriented approach Relevant certification (such as EIPA or RID) preferred
Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school-wide activities between students, faculty, and staff Adapt interpreting styles to accommodate individual communication needs and educational settings Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to promote student success and accessibility Maintain confidentiality and follow all applicable school guidelines Participate in meetings, professional development sessions, and other assigned duties as needed Provide language access for extracurricular events, assemblies, and meetings as required
