Employment Type Part Time About the Employer The Mendocino County Office of Education is a public agency whose primary purpose is to provide educational leadership, resources and services to schools to ensure wide-ranging educational opportunities for all students. This mission is accomplished through cooperative efforts with teachers, school districts, families, and communities; through direct instructional programs and administrative services; and through coordination with the California Department of Education and other agencies. Job Summary Job Summary Basic Function Under the general supervision of the Director of Special Education, serve as the facilitator of communication between students, teachers and others; interpret from spoken and written English to sign language for students and sign language to voice for teachers and peers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess a Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or equivalent; or must have achieved a score of 4.
0 or above on the EIPA, the ESSE-I/R, or the
NAD/ACCI
assessment;
  • Education or experience related to working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing in an educational setting preferred;
  • Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License and provide proof of automobile insurability;
  • Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance;

Employees are provided with an insurance plan, which includes health, vision, and dental insurance for employee, spouse, and dependents, at a shared cost. Participation in this plan is mandatory for employees working 36 plus hours a week. Employee will be a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) to which both the employee and MCOE contribute. Employee may elect to be a member of the Mendocino County Federation of School Employees Union. MCOE does not participate in the Social Security system.
