Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract ASL Interpreter / Language Facilitator Position Overview Soliant Education is seeking an onsite ASL Interpreter / Language Facilitator for a full-time contract position in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for the 2026-2027 school year. This education industry position will provide individualized communication and academic support to a student while helping ensure meaningful access to classroom instruction. The assignment is expected to begin ASAP and continue through June 11, 2027, with a schedule of 32.5 hours per week. Student Support The selected professional will primarily work one-on-one with a preschool student, although the specific placement may be adjusted based on the candidate's background, experience, and the needs of the district. In addition to facilitating communication through ASL, the role includes tutoring, reinforcing classroom concepts, checking for comprehension, and helping expand the student's ASL vocabulary. The goal is to provide consistent language access while supporting the student's academic and social development. Responsibilities Provide one-on-one ASL communication and language support throughout the school day. Facilitate understanding between the student, teachers, staff, and peers as appropriate. Reinforce instructional material through tutoring and individualized academic support. Check for comprehension and help develop the student's ASL vocabulary and language skills. Support classroom participation while encouraging independence and engagement. Collaborate with teachers and school personnel to promote effective communication and student progress. Maintain a professional, supportive presence within a diverse urban school environment. Requirements Candidates must demonstrate fluency and proficiency in American Sign Language and be able to effectively communicate with a student in an educational setting. Experience working in a school environment is highly preferred, particularly with children or students who are Deaf or hard of hearing. RID certification and/or an EIPA score is preferred but not required, and fluent ASL users without current certification may be considered. Placement And Interview Process The initial interview with Soliant Education will be conducted by phone with a recruiter before the candidate is presented to the school district. Qualified candidates will then participate in a virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf, who will discuss the candidate's background and determine the best placement based on age range, experience, and student needs. The district serves a highly diverse population, providing an opportunity to make a meaningful impact through individualized language and academic support. Compensation And Benefits Non-certified candidates who demonstrate ASL fluency may be considered for a pay range of $30-$40 per hour , while certified candidates may earn $40-$48 per hour , depending on certification and experience. Soliant Education and the school district are also working to help interpreters pursue certification through available CEU reimbursement opportunities. Contract benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401k plan, and weekly pay.
