Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact as an ASL Language Facilitator in a diverse, urban school community near Stamford, CT. This full-time contract role runs through June 11th, 2027, offering 32.5 hours per week supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing. You'll primarily work in a one-on-one capacity, empowering a preschooler—or another student depending on your background—to fully access curriculum, strengthen their ASL vocabulary, and gain academic confidence.
What We're Looking For:
Proficiency in American Sign Language and strong skills as a Sign Language Interpreter Experience within school settings is highly preferred RID certification and/or a qualifying EIPA score are advantageous Passion for supporting students' communication and academic growth through tutoring and direct engagement Capability to adapt communication strategies to the unique needs and age of each student Commitment to cultural responsiveness in a diverse student population Enthusiasm for ongoing learning and self-development
What You'll Be Doing:
Providing dedicated, direct ASL interpretation and language facilitation for a single student within a classroom or individual setting Collaborating closely with teachers, the Director, and Teacher of the Deaf to ensure student comprehension and progress Tutoring your assigned student to help reinforce lesson material and expand their ASL language skills Participating in school activities that foster inclusion and student growth Adapting support plans to fit the evolving needs of the student, with input from a collaborative multidisciplinary team
